Should I use #1 buk or brennekes when i go hunting

Hey guys I am going hunting next week for permit season deer it will be a combination of stand and drive hunting over two days. My question is should I use buckshot #1 or brenneke slugs. Since the shots will range from 20-65 yards. Honestly would a 60 yard shot with bukshot be ethical. The reason Im even considering the buckshot is because during the drive the shots are likely to be made on mooving deer. Which one would you use and too what range is the buck effective.

Thanks,
Rem1187:) :)

Ive heard of people dropping game occasionally at 60 yards with buckshot, but its risky. Keeping enough shot balls tight enough into a pattern can be tough. At 60 yards, I would go with a slug.
I wouldnt use buck past 50 yards.

Slugs would be my choice. Still accurate well after 65 yards. Ive never used buckshot to hunt, but from range experience theyre not very predictable after 25 yards or so.

A 60 yard shot on a deer with buckshot is irresponsible and unethical.

Buckshot is pretty much useless beyond 25 yards. Brennekes however will reach out 60 yards and more and get the job done.

00 buckshot is better for deer than #1 but buckshot should only be used at short range , to 25 yds. Slugs are preferable for deer at any range and necessary beyond 25 yds.

I'd say slugs, but
a) ask other members of your hunting party who have gone in the past, since they will know the specifics of your area and can make recommendations
b) make sure you pattern whatever you are planning on using

Two reason's actually

First the shot might be close and the slug will be good, and if it is not, you can rack quick and have buck. You can also carry the buck in your pocket and add it.

If you do have a long shot you have the slug and rack it and have another slug. If it was really dense (as in less then 30 yds) I would go the other way buck-slug-buck.

Trying to cover all bases. Might be good or might be bad. Are you good with slugs? Do you carry with one in the chamber?
Is it a slug gun or a standard shotgun, does it have sights? Single, pump, auto or a bolt?

Does your moniker denote the shooter? If so what kind of a barrel?

Thanks Harley and evreyone else

I will be using a smoothbore mossy 500 with a 26 barrel and bead sights.

Thanks again

Your FIRST step is to find out whether the state you'll be hunting in ALLOWS the use of buckshot, OR slugs.

Some states REQUIRE that you use only slugs. Load up with buckshot and you get arrested or ticketed by the wardens.
