I bought a G35 for IDPA matches and have not used it for 2 years.I use my Wilson KZ45.I have not shot the 35 for over a year.It just sits in the case.Should I trade it for a 23?I would carry the 23 on a daily basis. The 23 would be more practical.Although the 35 is cool,I dont use it.

No...you should trade it for a more compact .45, preferably a compact 1911. Another .45 will give you ammo compatability with your IDPA gun. A 1911 style will give you a compatable gun with the same controls and manual of arms as yout IDPA gun. If you are shooting tons of rounds in IDPA and in practice for IDPA it should go toward you practical self defense use as well. Pick up an Officers size or Commander size 1911 .45. Maybe even consider one of the Subcompacts such as a Kimber Ultra or a Colt Defender. I think Wilson makes a Sentinel or at least they used to.

If you have the funds to buy another gun then keep it since it seems like you have an attachment to it. If funds are a problem then do what you have to do.

After much research, I've found that (for me, at least) the Glock 23 is the best combination of size, capacity and firepower of any Glock. That being said, I own a lot of guns, but only one Glock.

I'm not sure which the 35 is (a long slide or semi-long slide, I think), but the 23 is a great all around gun.

"Should I trade my race car for a motor home?" Well, ummm...who knows. They have different uses. BTW, the G35 is a .40 not a .45. To put your question differently..."Should I trade this gun I don't shoot for one I will shoot?" Yeah, sounds like a plan. I own a G23 and it is a fine carry and range gun. As one other guy said, its a great nexus of caliber and size.

NO!

That isn't a good trade IMO. The G35 is so much more accurate and easier to shoot than the G23. Why would you want to get something that doesn't handle as well? I guess if CCW is your primary motive it would make sense, is that the case?

Alaska,

No one has mentioned in this thread that a Glock 35 is 45ACP. I think you misunderstood sundances comment. He's suggesting for Goat to get a 45ACP since he already owns a Wilson KZ45 and that way he can standardize on one caliber.

Sundance says

"No...you should trade it for a more compact .45, preferably a compact 1911. Another .45 will give you ammo compatability with your IDPA gun."

Branrot heres Glocks website hope it answers your question.

ryucasta...

Thank you. I took it that Alaska was referring to my post as well. I am glad you understood what I meant as Alaska apparently misunderstood me. I am completely aware that the 35 is a .40 caliber. I am a big fan of caliber consolidation. I also hate to see someone waste all the training and muscle memory developed in IDPA by going to a different weapons system and manual of arms for serious daily carry. If he used the 35 for IDPA, I could think of no better choice than the 23. But since he uses the 1911 based gun, it would be wise to pick a compact .45 as his daily carry gun.

For the reasons you stated, yes. The G23 is simply more concealable than a G35, especially if you ever sit down or go into a car.
But the fact that you ask makes me think that you don't want to give up your G35.
