Should I trade a taurus pt 92 for a beretta 92?????

Well, I bought a Taurus Pt 92 special edition s/s gold accents with a pearl handle. I have read here that most people dont trust Taurus that much. So there is a gun show coming up and I wonder if I should try to trade it for a beretta, is the quality that much more. I bought the gun because I liked the way it looks and yes I know its a pimp gun lol. But I wouldn't want to own a gun I couldn't trust my life to. what I could i expect on a deal to trade mine for a beretta 92 (my Taurus has never been shot and I wouldn't consider getting a used beretta) I would also want the beretta is a silverish finish either s/s or inox, so what would i be looking at price wise? i bought one hi cap mag from the Taurus can I use this in the beretta?

Thanks
James

I wouldn't trade the Taurus for a Beretta. The Taurus has a Lifetime warranty, but the Beretta only has a one year warranty. The Taurus and Beretta magazines are not interchangable.

Way back in '91 or '92 I had a similar dilemma. I had a blued Taurus PT-92, and although it worked fine I prefered the grip feel and overall mystique of the Beretta. All these years later I'm not sorry I traded up. The three Beretta 92's I have owned have NEVER malfunctioned, not even once, period. That from about 10,000 rounds between the three. That from going almost 1,000 rounds without cleaning one of them at one point. Later there was aluminum shavings in the cleaning solvent from being fired so long without being lubed, yet it still never stopped running. If you want a reliable self-defense weapon, the Beretta 9mm is it.

As for Taurus, their metallurgical controls have been somewhat shaky the past couple of years. That is why you sometimes hear of slide/frame cracking or broken parts with them. Yes it has a lifetime warranty, but do you?

I've never owned a Taurus, but I own two Beretta's, one a 92FS. It has over 5000 rounds through it, and doesn't show much wear from when I bought it used. It is always accurate, and never had a misfunction or misfeed. I'd get a Beretta every time.

Run, Run, Run

Trade that old Taurus in on a Beretta any day
of the week, and twice on Sunday. IMO, the
Beretta is a much better firearm.:D Forget
about warranty's, you shouldn't need one
with a Beretta. And Tauri International
offers a "limited lifetime warranty", cuz they
don't intend to fix 'em.

Liquid...

Please read my posts in the "Revolver Section" under the thread "Multi-Alloy or Titanium". That should help you make up you mind regarding the Taurus "lifetime warrenty" scam.

I had a Taurus PT92 and thought it was a great pistol. Sold only because I was once a poor college student and needed money. I do have plans on getting another one in the not-too-distant future.

You say you already have a PT-99, why give a hoot about "opinions" of others now that you have one yourself?
I do like the Beretta plenty, but I don't see the superiority some like to talk about. I know the Beretta 92FS I briefly owned a couple years ago wasn't any better in the accuracy department.

That said, I don't think the Taurus is any better than Beretta either.
I sold the Beretta instead of the Taurus because I clearly couldn't get as much for my Taurus as I could the Beretta; clearly the Beretta holds a higher resale value.

Taurus does have a nasty stigma attached to it that it doesn't truly deserve ( they made less-than-quality guns in the 60's-70's).
However, time does go by, and for every day, that stigma atrophies more and more as people have their own personal experiences with Taurus products, finding these stigmas ungrounded for the most part.
Exceptions are out there, but I've also heard plenty negative things about other respectable makers.

I own five Taurus product, and they don't just get "function-fired" once or twice a year, either.
I shoot my guns whenever I get the time, and most my firearms have seen thousands upon thousands of rounds. I never had a problem with any of my Taurus products (minus a 669 with a cylinder-latch screw that once wanted to work it's way out).

Go and shoot your PT-99 and see if you find yourself somewhat wanting. If so, go make the trade... it's all about being confident and happy anyway.

Below is what has been sitting on my bedstand for the past few years (stoked with 16 G-A 115gr +P+ Gold Dots).

mags aren't interchangeable between the 2. if you want a stainless steel beretta they're called INOX (short for the italian word for stainless steel). i doubt you could trade straight up for a 92 INOX but i'd still go for the trade. i have 2 berettas and like them a lot. my 92FS is completely reliable and very accurate.

You sure abou that? I had a Taurus PT99 at one time. It couldn't use Beretta mags, but the Beretta's we used on duty (I was in the Marines at the time), could use Taurus mags.

The Beretta mags could modified for use in Taurus guns by enlarging the hole where the mag release engages the mag. We tried this and it worked, but I would NOT recommend it for reliability reasons though.

Overall, I'd have to agree that the quality with Berettas are just a touch better than that of the Taurus. I've never seen a Beretta fail on the firing line (used to run the shooting range for my unit). On occasion, I have seen some Taurus 92's experience a stoppage or two.

I bought a Beretta 96 Brigadier about 2 months ago, if that, and love it. And just to set the record straight, mine came with a three year warranty on it. You just have to spend the time to fill out the warranty card and send it in. ;)

trade......

You have to be kidding.....Yes, if you can but doubtful as the Beretta is a work of art. It will hit what you aim at, if you aim. It is nice to hold, well balanced and the 9mm ammo is sorta cheap...Don't wait for a gun show....go out and get ye one as soon as possible you'll be glad you did....

I owned the Taurus about 10 years ago. I shot it extensively and never had a problem of any kind with it. I still have a couple trophies on my loading bench I won using that pistol in some local "combat" matches. I deeply regret selling it and would love to have another one. I don't know about the warranty because I never had to use it. I would estimate that I fired 10k rounds through that gun. I am just pulling that number out of the air, but I bet it is close. This is taking nothing away from the Beretta which I would also like to have. I will more than likely never buy either one new, but if the right deal comes along, you never know. One thing that I thinks needs saying and no matter how I put this, someone will take offense. Do not try to keep up with the Jones's. Don't worry about what other people think or say about your guns. Don't worry about gun snobs. Don't pay attention to anything you read in magazines. All that matters, let me repeat that, ALL THAT MATTERS is how your own gun performs in your own hot little hands. Take the gun out and shoot it. Shoot it a lot. If it doesn't work out for you, you have at least proven that to yourself. Nobody on here knows how that gun will perform, how long it will last, or if you will ever have a problem with it. However, you can find that out and we can't. What you do with it is up to you, but your post sounds to me like you are making a knee jerk reaction to what someone else is telling you, and they don't know what they are talking about. There are lemons among every single brand of gun ever made. You may have one, you may not. There is only one way to find out. If it turns out bad, buy the Beretta. I am not telling you what to do, one way or the other. I am telling you to make up your mind based on facts you arrived at yourself from personal experience.

I think you'll have a hard time trading the new Taurus for a new stainless Berretta. I also tell you to form your own opinion on the Taurus line. If its not a polymer pistol then you wont have much problem with the Taurus. I have a PT100AFS and have shot the h-e-double tooth picks out of it without any problems. Its my primary carry gun and I bet my and my families life on it without hesitation. My wife has the Tracker .357 and loves it too. Taurus got a bad rap in the 60's and 70's and just when it was getting good they took two steps back with the polymer line. Thats another story in itself. Bottom line is, take it out and shoot it. You'll be happy with it I assure you.
