Should I sell my CZ 40p?

As stated in the title I've got a CZ 40p that a friend gave me an insanely good deal on. I guess he felt sorry for me b/c the only firearm I had at the time was a Hi Point .380. I like the gun enough but it just feels like a hindrance in a lot of ways. Heavy, limited capacity, limited/expensive parts and accessories, etc.

In the back of my mind I just keep thinking this thing is not "gtw ready" lol and it's kinda starting to freak me out a little. I definitely have to get a new handgun with higher capacity. I've been going back and forth between DA/SA or striker fired offerings and putting WAY too much thought into it. I can't seem to get past these post apocalyptic fantasy scenarios where I guess I've been brainwashed into believing only a Glock (or at the very least a striker fired pistol) will suffice lol.

The other day I realised I could just sell the 40p and combine the proceeds with what I was planning on spending and either get both or get something really nice that would be out of my price range other wise.

Anyone see any reason I should keep it? It looks like their worth more than they were a few years ago. I see old posts where people couldn't get rid of them for $250 now they seem to go for over $400.

I like my Sig P226 in .40S&W a lot, and the only other .40S&W that piques my interest lately is a Beretta 96FS lNOX. I had a CZ 75B in .40 and a Gen4 G-22 both of which never ran right for me. I did have an HK USP .40 that I kind of wish I'd kept, that was a reliable, accurate pistol.

What kind of problems were you having with the 22 and the CZ?

I've pretty much decided to go ahead pick up a used police trade in 22 for the time being and kill 3 birds with one stone. I was only really considering 9mm's but I'll be able to buy and conversion barrel and have a few mods done for less than a new 19/26. So that's the way I guess I'm going to go.

If you don't like it/don't need it/don't use it, and want something different, then by all means. Almost bought one more than once, but I've cooled on 40SW a lot over the years. :)
Find something that works well for you, and trade to it.

While I don't own any Glocks, I've just been waiting for a great price on one in a 19 or 17. I do have an M&P and absolutely love it. I would definitely consider it a GTW gun. The prices on used G22s are pretty good and can be had for less than $400 regularly.

Cheapshooter's rule of firearms is never sell or trade anything!

I like it.

I'd save up and get the new one and then have two guns. If the new one isn't better than the old one then you won't have any regrets about getting rid of the Hi-Point (cause you DIDN'T get rid of it...you kept it). If the new one is the answer to a maiden's prayers then you've got the Hi-Point as a backup.

:D

Good luck.

I have been a long-time CZ enthusiast, but the CZ-40p was never a gun I was enthused about. That said, I would probably have bought one if I had been offered one as an insanely low price.

(The 40p has the slide from the CZ-40B mounted on the frame of the CZ P01 [but tweaked to work with the 40B slide] -- it's a sort of a "frankengun." Not too heavy, not too big. A bit odd, but not fundamentally flawed weapon.

If .40 S&W round isn't a problem for you, I'd keep it and not worry about it. If you don't like .40 S&W (or don't shoot it well) then you can see if you can sell the 40p for the price you paid. Then you can get a used Glock 19 or a CZ-P07... Either one would be a good choice.

If you're sticking with .40 S&W you're not going to get a lot greater capacity in a "compact" weapon. (The Glock 23 would give you 3 more rounds with a standard magazine.

As for "never selling or trading anything" -- I call BS on that RULE.

Too many guns just don't fit every shooter, and not all guns are created equal. It's possible to buy a gun that seemed right when you first tried it, or when you bought it, but just didn't work for you. Far too many folks have guns in their gun safe that never get shot, but which -- for reasons I'll never understand -- are revered like religious icons. They're not religious icons... they tools!!

Get the tools that work best for you, and keep those tools -- and sell or trade the rest -- and get new tools that work better!!

Never selling or never trading any of your weapons (tools) RESTRICTS or SLOWS your ability to improve your personal armory!! Give someone else a chance to use the guns that don't work for you... while you find better ones (for you.)

So it looks like you want a lighter full-size semi-auto with higher capacity. Assuming that you want it in .40 S&W and you want that gun to shoot both comfortably and reliably, I strongly recommend that you check out the PX4 Storm by Beretta.
