Ok so im looking around at some Leupold VX-lll in 3.5-10x40mm
But the more i look around the cheaper they look and im not
too sure about the performance.. for a while iv had my mind set
on them but the longer i look around the more and more i get cold
feet and rethink abut putting it on my rifle.. (Remington 700 .308)

I am looking to target shoot but hunt from time to time
and get a variable power and put 1/4 turret adjustment
on if it doesnt come with any and a mil-dot reticles and keep
it in the $500-600 range..

Because really out side of nikon and leupold i dont know much
about scopes and other companies out side of the 2. So really
is there another scope around that range i could look at or is the
VX III series just fine and im thinking about it too much?

I'm no expert but people I talk to really like their Leupolds. I've looked through some that were really clear and bright. Personally for one reason or another I've always wound up with Nikons and I like them. I'd say it's a coin toss. I do like that the Leupold is US made. As an alternative some people swear by the Bushnell Elite series. Like I said I'm no expert, I just saw you weren't getting much help.:D
Go to Midway USA and you can read the reviews of different products. I sometimes find that helpful when I'm having trouble making up my mind.

Haha thank you.. every little bit helps..
Im just looking to get that little nudge into either
direction before i make my decision concrete.

I've bought two scopes in the last couple months so I've looked at a lot of them. I boiled it down to Leupold, Nikon or Sightron. Couldn't find a Sightron in a store that I could handle and every time I compare the Nikon to the Leupold, I end up buying the Nikon.

They're both great products, the Nikons are just much clearer and brighter for my eyes. The only downside to the Nikon is that BDC reticle. They need a better ranging reticle than that.

Sorry I'm not a lot of help here, but I just don't use scopes. All the games I play are based on iron sights, and in the woods I hunt, if I can tell the game is there, I can hit it. We have the Rifleman's 50 Yards in there.
I could give you advice, but I would be forced to advise you not to follow it. :)
