Should I get a Seecamp?

Help: I've mulled over this so many times, that now I'm more confused than ever. I usually carry a glock 26 when the type of clothing I'm wearing permits, but sometimes in the summer it's hard to go ccw without showing.
I have been considering a Seecamp 32 simply because it is the smallest pocket pistol that I have found with at least a decent round. I know the 32 silvertip is less than ideal but, as many of us have admitted on this forum and elswhere, the mouse gun in in your pocket is still better than the howitzer at home. I like the naa guardian but the seecamp is still dimensionally smaller and extremely concealable. It also has a reputation for absolute reliability. Bottom line: what do most of you think regarding personal defense with these type weapons providing the shooter does his part with lots of practice etc. Lets face it. When things come down to using one of these firearms, your probably talking about distances of ten feet or less.

regards,

After seeing the Guardian,

I'd be hard-pressed to spend the extra money and/or endure the wait for a Seecamp. This little number had night sights and everything.:o Just wreaked of quality. My buddy says it can handle any .32, rather than being restricted to ST.

I carried a Seecamp .32 LWS for about two years in a cowhide right front pocket holster. Traded it for a S&W 642 and have never looked back.

Here's my take:

The Secamp is small which makes it easy to carry. Also makes it tough to shoot. No sights, which make it smooth on the draw, but tough to hit with. The .32 is nothing to write home about. Do you really want to face a man with a knife in an ATM with a .32? The Seecamp is very well madw, which makes it expensive. It's also somewhat tough to take down. The Seecamp I had recommneded Winchester Silvertip ONLY, but I understand that may have changed.

Most importantly, the Seecamp is a "dense" little gun. it will sag the pocket just a bit.

The S&W (alloy frame) is just a few ounces more than the Seecamp, but large enough to spread it out so it doesn't sag the pocket. You can change the sights or grips to fit your needs, and load it with any .38 load you want. It's a reliable action, easier to hit with, generally less expensive, and hits a hell of a lot harder.
I carry mine in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. It conceals in dress slacks (wool, cotton) as well as my Seecamp ever did.

Just my .02. Good luck.

I own 3 Seecamps. 1 25ACP and 2 32ACP (1 pre and 1 post CNC machining.) I also own 2 NAA Guardians. 1 32 ACP and 1 380.

Had the NAA Guardian been around in the mid 1980's. I would never have bought my first Seecamp. The fit and finish of the 32ACP Seecamp is near perfect. It is truly a jewel, but you need tools to field strip it, and if its SN is under 30,500 then the only ammo recommended is the Winchester Silvertip.

On the other hand the Guardian 32 is 2 oz heavier and a hair larger. It can be field striped without tools, and can fire any available 32 ACP rounds including FMJ, which the Seecamp cannot chamber.

As to weight, don't worry about it. It virtually disappears in your pocket. I now carry all of my pocket guns in Ron Graham holsters. (I now own 15 of them--as you can guess, I really love his products). My holster recommendations would be his Twin Peaks for front pocket carry, his Rear Pocket for the rear pocket, and his ACE IWB holster for belt carry. His web site can be fouind at: http://www.grahamscustomgunleather.bigstep.com/

I’ve had and loved my LWS 32 since ’89. It’s functioned smoothly and reliably since then. I did notice keyholing with Winchester Silver Tips so I switched to Speer GoldDots. (Even though it’s possible that the keyhole effect might have increased its stopping power.)

Although the Seecamp is a pleasure, if I was going to get a pocket .32 today, I’d try the Kel-Tec P-32 because of it’s even lower weight and handy-dandy side clip. Then the money I saved I’d put down on a Kahr PM9.

The last .32 ACP Seecamp I saw was priced at $750.

For that kind of money, you could buy a S&W M638 and a Beretta Jetfire and still have money left over for ammo.
These two guns would meet my needs better than a Seecamp.

This is a great time to purchase a Seecamp...

I've NEVER seen prices so low on new Seecamps. A gun shop owner in Florida just told me that he let a NIB Seecamp go out the door for $420.00. I've seen those inflated prices, but I've also seen some very good deals. At the last big show in Louisville, I saw Seecamps going for $450.00.
I have several pocket pistols, however my Seecamp has the smoothest trigger and slide of them all. I like my Guardian, P-32 and all the rest but, if I had to pick only one to keep--It would definitely be the Seecamp. I think they deserve the reputation they have. I use Gold Dots in mine. As far as being a little heavier than a P-32, I think I've solved that problem with an RJ Hedley back pocket holster. The "anti-print" panel spreads the weight around and the Seecamp feels like another wallet. The price on the Hedley was good too. Very nice holster at a very good price. I bought the "pocket spare magazine carrier" that he offers for $10.00 with the holster. (Lint free spare mag.)

In a word,YES.Currently Seecamp .32 pistols run $425.00 plus tax here in Pgh.Pa.Approx. the same price they were twelve years ago but without the two year wait.I'm considering a second one.tom.

Hi Pittsdriver:

I've read some of the other replies that have been posted since my first one, and I've decided to share a few more comments.

The Seecamp v Guardian debate is a heart v mind kind of debate. Of my 3 Seecamp's, I bought the first 2 used and only the last one new. When I bought my first 2, it was the only game in town if you wanted a small and fairly light hide-away. I have put thousands of rounds through my first 2 with a failure of any kind.

I've also carried a Seecamp for a lot longer than I carried a Guardian. So I guess my heart is with Seecamp. But my mind tells me that the NAA Guardian is a better built firearm. Maybe its finish is not as perfect as a Seecamp, but damn close.

You mentioned the size difference between the Seecamp and the Guardian. That is true, but when I hold one in each hand, I cannot tell the difference.

I've got Gutter Snipe sights on my Guardian 380, and intend to have them installed on my G32. But I don't have that option with the Seecamp. I love the fact that the Guardian will chamber and fire any 32ACP ammo, something the Seecamp cannot do. To a lesser extent, I like the Browning style mag release on the Guardian, which is something the Seecamp doesn't have. I also like the idea of not needing a small punch and empty case to field stip the Guardian, which what you need to field strip the Seecamp.

There is no doubt that the Seecamp is a cult gun.

I doubt that the Guardian 32 will ever become a cult gun.

The point of all of this is if you want the Seecamp. Buy the Seecamp. Both the Seecamp and the Guardian are excellent firearms. Like I said earlier, its a heart v mind kind of problem.
