Should I buy a non-factory Glock Hi-Cap Magazine?

I'm a new owner of a Glock 27, and I saw an ad from a reputable gun store offering a 29 round, 40 cal, non-factory magazine for sale. The ad states that the magazines are identical to factory Glock magazines, and it has a metal liner that won't wear on the mag release. They're made in the USA by Scherer. Should I purchase or stay away?

Pipper,
I've never had one, never used one, but never heard anything bad about them. If I ran across one at a decent price I'd pick it up. That's my opinion. Bob

It might be a bitch to load. Look into possibly getting a mag-loader. But I haven't heard much negative OR possitive about Scherer. I know they make good little finger-extentions for the mini-Glocks. I wouldn't see much use for such a large magazine though... maybe just as a range gizmo. You'd spend just as much time loading as you would burning ammo. I like loading because it limits the amount of shooting I do at a range session.

Let us know how you like it,
Ben

Have lots of Glocks. Generally I have heard that any after-market Glock mag is to be stayed away from. I only have factory mags and have no experience with any others but thats just the general buzz I get in the glock world. It will likely work and be fine, let us know if you get it. Unfortunately even reputable gun stores are forced to sell crappy stuff simply because they are in the business of selling and they get good deals on such stuff from distributiors. Always remember you get what you pay for. That would be quite a mag sticking out of your 27!

I have 2 Promag 17 rd. mags for my Glock 34 (same as G17). They work great. I need a loader for both the factory and aftermarket mags only with my Glock. Paid about $35 each a year ago.

piper I have both scherer and glock 33rd mag on my G19. Both are great and never jam. I paid $99 for the glock and $69 for the scherer.

what is the website for Scherer? I bought a Kel-Tec Sub 9 rifle and got a 31-round Scherer mag. Love it!

Pipper, don't forget that the answer might be different for .40 Glock mags. In other words, non-Glock .40 mags may not be as reliable as non-Glock 9mm mags, due to cartridge design.

I have limited experience w/Glocks. Several fellow officers and other acquaintenances have mentioned that the only non-Glock mags which work in Glocks are the Scherer and ProMag units.
