Local dealer (friend)has a NIB Gold Cup Trophy. The gun is stainless and it is beautiful. Are these models as highly regarded as the series 70 and 80.Is this a fragile gun being so finely tuned? Can I shoot hardball ammo through it without trouble? Is $970.00 a fair price for it.Please reply.

Goat,

It's one hell of a pistol. I've had on now for about a year. I have run everything through it with no problems. that is the average price too. Anything under a grand is good. Accurate as hell too. Mine holds 1" at 25 yards.

My father had a Colt Gold Cup, about 15 years ago. He sold it. But he talks about that guns, and how he never should have sold it, about 3 times a week. I doubt he will ever stop unless he gets a new one. It must be a very good gun for him to talk about it all the time like this. Buy it. Also, it seems to be made of un-obtainable around here. So go for it, I doubt you will regret it, that s unless you sell it.

In N. TX, a price less than $1000 for a ss Gold Cup Trophy would be very good.

Colt prices have skyrocketed lately.

I bought one about two years ago, Paid just under $900 for it. Best buy I ever made. The trigger is the best I have ever seen fromn a factory gun. Accurate too.

Buy it, colt may not make very many more like it. Supposedly the custom shop worked on them before they left the factory, probably colt's last hurrah.

I have a Series 80 gold Cup, and really like it. It is not quite as accurate as a Kimber Gold Match, but is more forgiving with lesser quality ammo.

My response is don't buy it. Instead, if you want a Colt, buy a 1991-A1 and have a good smith improve it to your specifications.

The other good base for improvement would be a milspec Springfield.

If you want one with certain features without a trip to the smith, consider the Kimber. I've been advised though that Kimbers are better left alone as they come from the box.

We have never been modern.

I have one and my experiences are the opposite. The trigger wasn't much, and the gun was badly finished (rounded corners, unven flats). It is accurate, though, but definitely a fixer-upper to the tune of $400 additional dollars.

Goat,
For another $230 you can have a Wilson Millenium Protector. I have a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup and I love it! Accurate as hell and they don't make them anymore. But a Wilson's a Wilson. Hard to find better at that price.

Man, I didn't realize how much the price on these good pistols has skyrocketed! That's a lotta kale, but is it gonna get any cheaper? I don't think so.

Parabellum,
We're going to pay through the nose for these lawsuits against the gun manufacturers!
