Should doves be hunted in Michigan

Y'know, this isn't really on topic, but last summer this question was coming up for some reason and somehow a bunch of idiots in Illinois decided to get involved, so there were several newspaper articles, none very flattering to grown men who would pick on the poor widdle doves.

A woman wrote a very fiery, very expressive letter to the Chicago Tribune about how barbaric it was to hunt doves, because they're the symbol of peace itself and they're cute and they're small and defenseless. She closed by saying that she would never live in a state that barbaric and would never move to Michigan if the law passed.

I sent a letter to the editor offering to help her move out that day, since Illinois also allows dove hunting..... :D
Idiot.

Ohio had an anti dove hunting ballot measure last year or the year before. Ohio hunters shot it down :D in a big way. The measure was backed financially by several out-of-state interests. The outsiders were basically trying to impose their "big city" laws on everyone in the state. That don't play well around here.

I'd like to think that Ohio gun owners, still P.O.ed at the liberals who tried to get this passed, helped give Ohio's 21 electoral votes to Bush.

I'm glad that Ohio gun owners stood up and delivered. In Michigan, the paid union holiday on election day helped deliver the state to Gore and Sen. elect Stabenow by a narrow margin...

Don't forget to vote. Some politicians actually search out intelligent public opinion. We need this law passed!

It's HB6147 if you search for it on http://www.michiganlegislature.org/, it'll show up.

but why?

What on earth is so wrong or contraversial about hunting doves?!?! They are a numerous game bird and they taste good! It's not like their hunting bald eagles for crying out loud!

My dear 81 year old mother was
heavily involved in the dove dispute
in Ohio a few years ago. She has some
political clout and called in some
I.O.U.'s to insure that it remained illegal.
Needless to say, she was on the losing side.

Now, every time mom visits I make it a point
to serve her dove. As anti-hunting as she is,
she appreciates good food. She was visiting last
week. I served her dove and venison. Seems she has
developed a taste for wild game.

yes, she is aware of the irony of her "I hate hunting,
but I love game meat position."
What a great mom.
