Shots were fired at the Navy Yard this morning. I'm watching it on the news, and they've added that 3 shots were fired. They're speculating how the person got the weapon in. Every time I see a story like this, I fully expect it t add fuel to the anti gun crowd.

Apparently the shooter is still active as of the time of this post.

They've added that he's using a shotgun. I wonder how this will affect the perception of shotguns being in the "assault weapon" category.

It'll more than likely get reported as an "assault" something or other, no matter what kind of gun it is.
It's too tempting a titillating term for most journalists to ignore.

They're saying he has a rifle now. I don't know if it is in addition to the shotgun or if the initial reports were wrong, but if it is a rifle, it wouldn't surprise me much to see another run on "assault rifles" because of this. I sincerely hope not because we are just now starting to recover from the wake of the last mass shooting.

Of course, the Navy Yard is a Gun Free Zone, and it is in DC, so it would be impossible for a bad guy to have any gun there, let alone an Evil Black Rifle...

WaPo is now reporting that there are three shooters, in fatigues, and that police say one is down.

(Edit: new update says the one is not "down," but trapped between third and fourth floor of building; other two at large.)

Looks like a terrorist attack, if true. The questions will be, what group? and what motive?

And the idiots on all three major networks are showing shots of aerial evacuation from the roof. Hope the shooter(s) decideds against turning on CNN.
Fox reported the shooter with an AR-15, saying it was the civillian variant of the M-16, then saying that the AR-15 was an assault rifle that fired three rounds burst.

Before we just speculate and comment on what we don't know - I'm going to close this.

When we have reasonable facts, we can reopen.

Wait for real info.

PS - given the confusion on number of shooters, identifying the wrong guy and the usual fog of a critical incident - yep, let's wait.
