Greeting's All;

What make and model does our U.S. Coast Guard use to
protect our homeland shore's? I have heard that it is the
12 gague, Remington 870 Marine Magnum; is this correct?

Best Wishes,

Apparently they can be pretty heavily armed:

"The Division maintains a variety of weapons which include the: Browning Machine Gun .50 Cal M2; M60 Machine Gun; M16A2 Automatic Rifle; 12 Gauge Riot Shotgun; M9 9mm Service Pistol; and M203 40 mm grenade launcher. "

The Riot Shotgun is identified as an M870 later in the story. It doesn't look like a Marine Magnum in this picture though.

Saw a recruiting pamphlet in which the person guarding a prisoner was carrying what appeared to be a Mossberg pump.

I have a photo of a couple of Coast Guardsmen from the early to mid 1980s conducting a practice intercept/search of a small boat. While one member frisked a cuffed suspect, his partner covered him and kept an eye on another cuffed and seated suspect with a 20" barrelled Remington 870 with a parkerized finish and standard (4+1) magazine and a bead sight.
I had initially thought it to be an Ithaca 37, since the two receivers look similar from the left side, but confirmed it to be a Remington by the characteristic magazine tube cap with sling swivel base in it's center, where the 37 has a lug attached to the underside of the barrel that is in front of its cap and is the base for the sling swivel base.
