Shotgun vs rifle scope??

I have a nice Winchester shotgun scope that I am tempted to try on a rifle (243). Will I ruin the scope. I ruined a decent 4x rifle scope on a 1200fps pellet gun so know all is not equal in recoil to scopes!!

I wanted to go just the other way, put a shotgun scope on my Mini 30 because should clear the hand gaurd when I need to clean it . [don't want to remove the scope every time]
About your question all I know is air rifle scopes are made for the reverse recoil of the spring.
Hope we get some answers.

Darn re read your post and we need the same answer................

The shotgun scope should work on a rifle and vice versa. Springer air guns have two recoils which kills scopes not made for them.

Depending on the distance you're planning on shooting, you could have some problem with parallax.

Leupold, for instance, sets rimfire scopes for 60 yards, shotgun/muzzleloader scopes for 75 yards and centerfire scopes for 150 yards. The info is available, or buried depending on how well you like the site layout, on the Leupold site along with an explanation of parallax. Long story short - if you can keep your eye centered on the lens it won't matter, but if you move your head a little off-center your shots will wander even though the crosshairs stay on target.
