Shotgun stock question...

I have an old (lke there are any new ones) Essex shotgun. Not even listed in "The Blue Book"

As with most older guns that were used, and I mean USED, this one was over-oiled in the barrel. The oil soaked into the wood and made it soft, and a chip has broken out of each side of the wrist above the lock. Maybe 3/8" deep by 1 1/2" long.

This was my grandpa's gun...he bought it at a Western Auto for $3.29 IIRC. I have the sales slip somewhere.

What would be the best way to repair the part that's broken out, or is there somewhere that I could get a salvaged buttstock??

I've done it like he says, turned out great. After the dgreasing, you can probably epoxy the pieces (degrease those as well) back on the stock and refinish per Gunplumber's instructions...

Good luck
