shotgun sports

Shoot both - much prefer them over trap and skeet (sorry Zipster). Even got the wife into shooting now - SHE prefers sporting over trap and skeet

FITASC:

the name is an acronym of Federation Internationale de Tir Aux Sportives de Chasse. FITASC is an international form of Sporting Clays and enjoys a following the world over. Many would argue that it is the ultimate challenge in clay target shooting, and a World or European title is the pinnacle of anyone's shooting career.

It is American sporting on steroids - there are no fluff pairs, no multiple show pairs, MUST shoot from a low-gun (US sporting USED to do that), can't move the gun until you see the bird.....

in short, it is more like real hunting scenarios that sporting started out as.

These are a little dry to read, but they are from the official web site:

It's a lot of frustrating fun..................try it!

Yes, I primarily shoot Skeet and Sporting Clays ...and occasionally some Trap or 5 Stand. Shooting Skeet - really improved my Sporting Clays scores...

FITASC - is not available in my area ...( but I'm not complaining / within one hour of my home ....we have 9 shotgun clubs ...all throwing sporting clays, a few with Skeet, most with 5 Stand and Trap.) Where in a lot of places in the country, they're lucky to have one club within one hour.

Jim - having shot FITASC, it is a humbling experience. The targets are tougher - not necessarily always further away, but faster, tougher angles, etc. It's the harder version of what US sporting USED to be with a low gun mount, no moving before the bird is visible, etc.

Sure, I understand some of the rules OneOunce ...just never been anywhere I could pursue it a little...

( No Skeet today / low 40's and rain ....so I took a couple of revolvers to the range for some exercize ) ....an old S&W model 18 -3 from 1971 ( K 22 Combat Masterpiece in .22 lr ) and a model 19 -1 .357 mag Nickel finish...and had a great time.....both 4" and about the same gross weight / worked on my draw and some double and triple taps ...( bad guy target did not live ..) !!

Yup, sporting clays is really popular in VA. I work on a mile long course myself, along with maintaining a 2 par FITASC range. It's fun with the right gun, I can't stand shooting it with a benelli (which I use for skeet and sporting clays). I have to shoot it with a Win SX1.

You're right OneOunce ...it is sad .... ( but unlike some areas / at least we still have a lot of clubs in the area ) ....so I'm not whining too much ...

I just shot tonight. Did ok on skeet, had a few headlift errors with the new SX1. After warming up to "the Legend", I did ok in SC shooting a 81. Its a fun gun.

See ....take that you "Trap Shooters Out There" ....he likes Skeet too ....:D

( real men shoot Skeet with a 28ga or a .410 ...) !!

Sporting clays is AWESOME. What makes it really awesome is after a round we can go down the street and hit up this awesome BBQ place and get awesome eats!! :D:D

I started shooting sporting clays last year. Lots of fun, cost too much to shoot all the time. I end up shooting more skeet and 5 stand at our club.

Sauer - where I shoot, a round of sporting at member prices is $30/100. That's about $4 more than 4 rounds of skeet or trap or 5-stand, yet , IMO, it is more fun and takes longer, so to me - it's a wash cost-wise

At member prices ...

Skeet and Trap at my club is $ 4 a round / $ 16 for 100 targets.
5 Stand is $5.50 a round / $ 22 for 100 targets
Sporting Clays is $ 35 for 100 targets ... and that extra $ 19 adds up ...

So my club pulls a lot more lines of Skeet and Trap .../especially for new shooters - that need to work on their swings / gun mount, etc ....where repetiton of target presentations is important.

When I have the boys around ....my son, my 19 yr old grandson and his fraternity brother - roomate .... its an easy $ 140 for sporting targets / and 20 boxes of shells is another $ 100 ....( and it is expensive / but part of a dad / grandfather's pleasure as well ). I have to feed them too ...but that's my wife's dept ...so I don't count that ...but what the heck ...it is, what it is ....
