Shotgun Slugs in a Choked Barrel??

Hi,

Although I have been shooting trap and skeet for years, I am VERY limited in using slugs. My question is, if you were to fire a slug from a shotgun that has interchageable chokes, what choke should be used? Can any of them be used?

What about slug from an over/under. (I dont plan on ever doing this, but was just curious)

Thanks!

No harm, but the chances of both barrels shooting to the same point of aim are very low.

That would depend on the distance they were regulated for and how well they were regulated - (the part that a lot of other folks here don't get as to why good ones cost more money..;))

In an accu-choke system, most use an Improved Cyl. choke with a saboted slug.
Those "most" would be not only wasting alot of money on a round designed for a rifled barrel to make much longer distance shots than a cheap slug is known to be accurate at...

But to expect a sabot "bullet" to even perform as well as a cheap Winchester "Super X" is expecting alot... The bullet is closer to a football shape and we all know a spin or "spiral" is required to get both distance and accuracy from the ol' pigskin...

The cheap slug is designed to fly straight and true with the same physics involved as is found with a Badminton shuttlecock... no spiral or spin required...

Hogdogs,

Thank you for correcting me as I was wrong in posting most shooting saboted slug out of IC choke.

l98ster,
sorry for the miss-information.:o

The Foster slug should be shot out of a smoothbore. I'd still start out with the IC. Try different chokes to see what shoots best with your ammo of choice.

Save the saboted slugs for the rifled barrels/chokes.

Also Brenneke's can be shot from both.
