Centerfire double barreled shotguns were first available here in the US about 1865. A few Euro made pinfires were around before that.

Early hulls were all brass. Paper cases were extant by 1880 or so, and nigh universal by 1900.

The first plastic cases date from about 1955 and the plastic one piece wad from the 1960s.
