After spending some time reading about police involved shootings and seeing how hard it is to stop someone with a large handgun the shotgun is beginning to look better for home defense. Here are a couple of links:

I am a 22 year LEO and a good handgun shooter. I have NEVER been a fan of shotguns for LEO use, as the accountability is questionable. With standard shells loaded with 00Buck, 9 bullets, .30 cal+, are let loose with each trigger pull. That scares me, especially being an administrator.

That said, in the corner of our bedroom at home, stands a pump shotgun loaded with #4 Buckshot (41 .22 cal pellets) and a tac light on the fore end. For home defense, at "across the house" distances, when I've just been awakened from my slumber and probably won't shoot a handgun very well, I see no more efficient way to protect my family. With that load, at 20ish yards, there likely wouldn't be a major organ without a hole in it.

I'm a fan for home defense and see the wisdom in your thoughts.
