New to gauge owership, have shots hundereds of shells over the years of buddys' owned.

Just picked up a Mossberg 500a Mariner for @ a decent deal,$299.
Im completely ignorant with shotgun cleaning and up keep, though I've heard there pretty simple.

Whats a good over cleaner and lube ( I understand this is everyones personal op) but what are some that I cant go wrong with.

Should I break it down and lube the chamber, elevator or any other parts before a range trip?

I've read where someone suggested replacing the stock extractor with a metal one for HD reliability?

This is only going to be a HD weapon with an occasional range trip.

Thanks in advance -

The only thing I use on my shotgun tubes is a fuzzy rod called a Tico Tool, Hoppe's #9 and Corrosion X.
I clean the tubes frequently to prevent the need for a brush.
If I ever do need a brush I use a tornado brush only.

Breakfree CLP will work fine for your pump gun. Clean the barrel, chamber, choke tube and the threads inside the barrel -that's about it

I almost always use hoppes 9 in conjunction with large patches and a brass brush. Mossberg should prove to b a reliable and easy to.clean firearm.

I haven't disassembled a pump, but taking apart a gun is generally simple. For shotguns, or any gun for that matter, I use a brush, solvent on a patch, oil on a patch, and a dry patch. For the rest of the gun, I lightly use solvent on the dirty grungy areas. And use oil the entire gun on the inside. I usually use high temp grease on any moving parts. I like to wax all external metal parts and wood and then oil. Then wipe off excess oil. If it's a synthetic stock, use stock rejuvenator.
