Shotgun barrels.... (Win 1300)

I've got a winchester 1300....I've got a few questions.
A) will a 1300 defender 18.5" barrel fit mine?
B) What are the legal implications of cutting a regular barrel down to within legal lengths (about 20")? What about the structural implications?
I'd like my shotgun to double as a backup home defense weapon....
 
A, the defender barrel will fit.

B, be sure to measure the barrel by inserting a rod so that it rests against the bolt face. (bolt shut) That's the official method of measuring barrel length. I see no problems with doing this - except the mechanical aspects. Remounting the front sight would be my weak spot.
 
The defender barrel wil have to be the 5-shot model right?
Will an 8-shot defender barrel fit on a 5-shot 1300 receiver w/ a magazine tube ext? Or does the ring need to be at the end of the factory magazine tube?
 
i do believe there there are different barrels for for the different sized mag tubes. don;t remember specifics, just remember seeing some marked as for the regular capacity one.
