Shotgun Barrels and Bolts

I would like to get a replacement barrel for an 870 Express, and I've been considering the Mossie made replacement barrels for a while. My question is, will the headspace have to be rechecked/re-set? The reason I ask is that if replacing the bolt I would have to have the headspace reset (I was told so by Mossberg re an older 500 20 ga,) so I imagine the converse is true, given that the chamber is integral to the barrel...am I wrong in this assumption?

Replies appreciated

Unless you have a strange situation, the 870 headspace should not be a problem. The Remington locks up into a recess in the barrel extension. With a new barrel you should have no problems. On some other designs (Ithaca 37 and Winchester Model 12 come to mind) the headspace must be set. It is not adjustable in the 870 without changing the bolt.

you'll have no problem if your 870 is not a freak or something....I have been using mossy rifled barrels for years and love em. the perform as well as my hastings and cost oh so much less!!!!!
