Why would you not port the barrel in top dead center? All the porting jobs you see out there are on the sides.

If they got the ports of center or at different angles on the sides, would that throw the point of impact off or jerk the muzzle to one side?

just wondering.
 
Nedfig, you could but most don't. The Schumann barrels for the 1911 are ported tdc for example. But with a lot of revolvers and shotguns you have a rib that goes the length of the bbl so porting is done on the sides. I might also mention that it is done at a downward angle so the effect of porting tdc is still there. George
