Shotgun Advice

If everything goes nice, i will go soon to take my Hunter's License.

Usually those stuff can take some month here to be done.

In the meantime, i searched around the Web, asked friend and guys that know and i made a list about the guns i like. Then i did again a list of the guns that liked the most.

Note:Rifled Barrel and chokes are Illegal here. Also rifled Rifles are Illegal and only allowed to athletes for the 300 meters rifle.

My first choice, is the Molot Vepr 12.

Is a nice gun and it has rails to mount a torch and a fore grip.
Also it takes magazines and can save a lot from reload time. Is used on IPSC shooting games, and as i heard, along with Saiga, both guns used buy the Millitary in Russia and Ukraine.
A feature i like is what the bolt stays open after the magazine is empty, as its not happening on Saiga.

Other Shotguns that i have in mind are:

BENELLI M3

BENELLI M4

REMINGTON 870

MOSSBERG 590

WINCHESTER 1300

I prefer the "militarized" tactical versions or Police/Riot control Versions, with sights and bigger magazines.

If some one wants to advise me for what gun is the best, is really appreciated.

Thanks in advantage.

I select every gun with the intention to use it in Hunting and also for "Home Defense" something Illegal here, but not Illegal in times of War.

So, what i want is a good gun to have as Primary for Hunting, Home Defense (In times of War) or Survival Conditions.
And i also want some good Secondaries as backup.

For hunting, i will go mostly for Big Game Animals like Wild Boars.

I like the Winchester 1300 and Mossberg 590. All the guns you listed are good guns. If you can handle each one, find the one that "fits" best.

Hmmm... Re-Reading Your OP (Original Post), they have some pretty strict Gun Laws there!!! No rifled shotgun barrels?! No CHOKES?! And no Rifles, period. MAN, You're pretty limited, so just the right ShotShell Load, tailored to Your game, in a Multi-Purpose SG (ShotGun) of Your choice/selection.

There's alot of Experience and Knowledge here at TFL, and someone will be able to give better advice than I can, given Their experience and knowledge, and Your situation.

I own a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum 12 gauge, which I hunt with, but we can have Chokes here in the U.S. That 870 is very affordable and a great "all around" Shotgun. If You've got plenty of funds, and can afford a $1,500 Benelli (or similar), I think I'd still purchase a Remington 870, or similar popular shotgun, and purchase accessories and ammunition.

The Remington 870 is very popular, and many different types of accessories are available for it. You can easily find "tactical" style stocks, grips, picatinny rails, extra barrels (short or long) for Remington 870...You name it... You can change most of the accessories out, Yourself, in a short amount of time and with a few simple hand tools.

With a smooth bore... Heavy Buckshot (00 or 000), or Rifled Slugs can effectively kill wild hogs.

Welcome to TFL!

Check out these Remington 870 Aftermarket Parts/Accessories.

I've thought about this one, and if I get another 870, to "customize", I will likely do something similar...Great for HD/SD (Home Defense/Self Defense)...and it looks good, in a "Mall Ninja" kinda way... :D

No, chokes are allowed, but the ones for Slugs or any rifled Choke is Illegal.

Well, Collapsible Buttstocks are also Illegal, because they made your shotgun categorized in the same category like Lupara or in General a gun with intention of concealed carry and you will be treated like a criminal.

You can only use those stuff here, if your barrel if very long but there is no guaranty that if they will find you having such thinks you will not be in trouble except if you are an IPSC shooter, but even then you can't be sure.

Also the barrel must be to less than 60cm's in length i think.

Yeah, very strict gun control...
The law here is the Exact Opposite of the Second Amendment and actually treats Citizens that want to have guns as potential enemies of the State.

I am planing to get as much shotguns is possible. You can't never have much guns.

Also i will go and Register as athlete for the 300 meter rifle and Pistol Shooting.

My first will probably be a Molot and a "cheap", good pump action.
Now i am between Mossberg or Remington with odds closer to the 870.

if you are looking for a duel purpose shotgun (hunting/defense) you might look at the mossberg 500. you can find them with 2 barrels a short 18 1/2" plus a longer ribbed hunting barrel. you can also find accessories available to dress it up if you like. good guns.

Hellas is the country. (Known as Greece that is unofficial name, official is Hellas or Hellenic Republic)

And yes, it really sucks.

And its not only the what gun are you own.
Even paper-sprays are illegal. So a girl is completely defenseless here. Even if you are in self defense and hit some one with bare hands, its possible that you maybe be accused for over-doing it.

You may have seen instructions for travelers that said to avoid areas at night that are in the center of Athens, or even some hundred meters away he Police HQ.

I know that for people from US, or other countries those stuff sound unbelievable but unfortunately, are real. And is always more unfortunately for the victims.

But there is a "good" side to these "brilliant" laws. If i have a safe, and a secure place with a lock to hold guns and ammo on, i can have many, many Shotguns, and many, many shells.

Possibly, in time i will get every Shotgun that i have on the list since now i have confirmation that they are worthy.

As for gun test drive, shooting a gun that you not own, or your your Athletical Union owns, is also illegal, and so the gun shops have no place to test the guns, and there are shooting ranges to fire guns like in US.
(But i think is legal to give a gun to a friend for hunting if he has license to hunt. But if is not, he can always say that he was carrying it for you. ;) )

So right here you are getting a "Pig in a bag", meaning that you don't know what pig you have in the bag.

Anyway.
Any other good shotgun that maybe i have to take a look at?

I've heard/read alot of good about the "lower end" Benelli... Benelli Nova Pump and SuperNova. Other than that, the Mossberg, Winchester and Remington's will serve You well. Just as with any other piece of fine equipment/machinery, maintain it well.

Yes, i have heard as well that Nova's are good.
Something i found interesting is that i heard that a model comes with rails for red-dots and stuff from the factory.

But Nova's are pump action, and when it comes to Benelli, i choose the Semi-Auto or Pump-Semi changeable shotguns.

When it comes to weapons, i want to have the best i can have. Trying to save money can cause trouble in a situation you don't want to have troubles.

The M3, is Military/Police used, good for hunting as every hunter here says, and is reliable.

The M4, is interesting, sine H&K involved in its construction, and personally i found H&K to be a fine manufacture. MP5's, G3's, PSG-1's, all nice, reliable and though stuff. :)

Your thinking too much.

Go out to your local shop, handle a few shotties and pick the one that feels 'right'.

Then buy ammo and go shoot.

Out of your list, I'd have to say the Mossberg 590 is probably the most "military" or "combat" style of shotgun. The US Military likes the 590. A lot of US police use Remington 870's. The winchester 1300 is great, and FN builds a really nice "tactical" version. I didn't know you could own guns in Hellas. I visited Europe last year and my german and dutch friends told me they have NO access to guns or hunting over there at all. You're lucky you can hunt- my german buddies really wanted to hunt some wild boar. Whenever my Euro friends visit, they LOVE going to the shooting range with me!! Good luck with your gun purchase(s) and have fun shootin!!

JerseyDrez. I can always get a license and go to fire a friend's or friend's of my friend gun on Hunts go i can make a Field-Test too.

zombieslayer. Yes, is luck that we still can use guns. I heard that In Holland, the Police is even seizing Replicas that look like real. But something i don't hear even where the Strictest gun control is active, is that criminal are not getting guns. They keep em coming anyway.

But things here are going to be more bad.
To give you an example of the situation, 1/3 of the Parliament, wants the Police disarmed.

(They must see to many movies...)

After all this great advises, i thing i will get my guns on this runs:

Molot Vepr 12 + Remington 870

Benneli M3 + Mossberg 590

Beneli M4 + Winchester 1300

Its a steady about 2.500 € in Year or six Months that way.

Happy shooting over there Spartan! Hope your cops put up a fight with parliament to keep their arms. One thing that amazes me about "disarming" any people- Just because something is illegal, doesn't make it disappear. Crack cocaine has always been illegal, yet there are more places to purchase cocaine than there are McDonalds! Just curious, but what kind(s) of shotgun ammo are legal over there?

Anything from bird-shot, from 0 buck to 0000 buck, slugs, sabots, anything.

The "Law" finds the barell to be the problem and not the ammunition.

Any 12 gauge shell is legal, except of course the plastic pellet, "non"-lethal loads, tear gas, Hi-Ex, or anything designed for Riot Control and blowing things up.

As for the cops, the majority of them will keep serving the state and aspirations of political parties they are loyal to. If they order them to disarm, they will give their guns.
But there are good cops (very few) that will give a fight to not being disarmament. Here those who will be good cops, are not becoming cops, because here for many reasons, a cop can't use non-lethal force or lethal if necessary, even to protect a citizens life, without getting in trouble with law.

zombieslayer, just think about that.
In US, with the Second Amendment, and "gun liberties", is easy to find a Soviet RPG-7 Launcher?

Here, with the strict gun control, criminals are getting them. They get RPG's AK's, grenades and many other stuff, not from stores, but from Illegal Trading.

Remember he Attack on U.S Embassy Here? It was with an RPG-7. Possibly came from Albania in 90's.

Yeah, gun control! :D

So, gun control, only makes good and law-abiding people become victims.

You have to be the most pro-gun european i've ever read any posts from! i have friends in the German army, and they aren't into guns at all. It sickens me to hear that they get H&K G36 rifles and they say they barely ever do any shooting. Can't say the last time I heard of an RPG-7 attack over here, but it's more than ironic that a country (or union like europe) that has no provisions for legal ownership of firearms has guys toting ak's and RPG's. It's cool that you get to use REAL ammo in your shotguns. A mossberg 590 and some 00Buck are all I need for Home Defense. I do get to carry a pistol though!!!:D

Keeping it by Your Bed

I think that keeping your shotgun by your bed ready for action is a good idea. Under the bed mounting is good but I saw somewhere else on The Firing Line that there is a new bedside rack. There is a video on YouTube that shows the rack in use here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3GXYAzh8EQ I think that within a second or less I could pull out the gun and be prepared to protect my home or go hunting.
