Sounds like all the details are not in yet; however, no holster=poor gun handling=accidental discharge.
Not a glock's fault any more than it was the bullets fault.

Just tragic, sorry to hear...family man and all.
 
Damned shame. That having been said, I normally carry my off-duty piece in my pocket. I've been carrying that way for thirty years with nary a problem.

I believe that there is more to this story than is being told. I don't understand how he could get into his trigger while trying to unbuckle the seatbelt.
 
If it had a external safety or a grip safety like most 1911s or a decent holster it probably wouldnt have happened.

It is a shame, I have a lot of sympathy for the family.

The family friend says it likely was loose in his pocket. It has also not been determined whether the man was a licensed gun owner, however his wife indicated to investigators she knew he carried a weapon with him from time to time, said Capt. Scott.​


Glocks have shorter triggers than a S&W revolver and lighter ones at that. You use a holster that covers the trigger guard and not walk around with it in you pocket! Same goes for the S&W M&P and Springfield Armory XP!

Here in Texas we had a Chief of Police carry a Glock 27 in Wal-Mart a while back. No holster. Carried it in his pants. It slipped down past the waistband and he tried to catch it. It went off and shot in the butt!

This Spotsylvania guy won the Darwin Awards. Sad but true.

I've packed Glocks now for well over ten years. Shot IDPA, IPSC, and Steel Challenge matches with them. Never once a AD/ND. I shoot all the time at the indoor range drawing from under a t-shirt or windbreaker. Never ever once a ND/AD!

You pack your gun in a secure holster and train to be able to draw it without any fumbling.

Use a good holster! Here is my FIST holster I use on the very Glock pictured:

This guy had no respect for the gun. And the gun killed him. Yes a Darwin Award. And his wife is now a widow.

So sad, prayers to family. Don't know anything about this man, how he carried, safety or anything else but it really could have been a freak accident or he could have been one of those individuals that should not even have a gun I'n the first place. So many people don't give a gun respect much less be toting one. Anyway hated to hear that but buy what i read atleast you know the man had good taste of guns! Really I've never really liked a striker gun but the high angle points I'n my hands great, recently bought a glock 22 and i love it
