Shot the Cobra today. Wow...

I knew the recoil would be fun in the alloy gun with warm loads and I wasn't disappointed. Not sure if I could ever hope to practice enough to be able to control fast DA shots. Sights are pretty much on, but after the first round the gun is squirming around in my hand so much that follow shots are nearly impossible.

Thought this might be a good carry piece but not so sure now.

Practice helps but the alloy snubbies are difficult to shoot well. For me, good double action shooting with them means "minute of man" at seven to ten yards. Still, I shoot them better than my Ruger LCP.

As KyJim says, practice, practice, practice.

I carry an S&W 042, an alloy double-action only, and it can be a beast. Hogue wrap around grips are pretty much mandatory with it, otherwise I'd probably give blood every time I shot it.

Different stocks are a definite possibility to help. Old ones are worn a little smooth and I need good checkering for a good grip. Will look around for another set.

I have Tyler T-Grips on mine and have found that to help. It also looks a bit more "correct" (it's an older first model) than putting Hogues or other aftermarket grips on.

it's getting harder and harder to find anyone who stocks aftermarket grips for Colt revolvers. Most of the stores I frequent now only have grips for Smith, Ruger, and Taurus.

Pachmyer and other makers still catalog grips for Colt, including some older ones. It's the finding in the local store that's the issue. Ordering them direct isn't a problem, as long as you know exactly what you have.

Had these in my Big Box of Gun Parts (I swear I could dive into that thing and find just about anything). Not my favorite style and a little thicker than I would prefer but they are hand-filling with good checkering. If they aren't too bulky for concealment...
