Shot my new P99

Well I got a chance to go shoot my new Walther P99 yesterday. It is a .40 cal version.

It shot pretty nice.. was using standard Winchester 180gr. Took me a while to get used to the trigger, long pull, but once I did things went much smoother. I had sprained my thumb earlier mountain biking so I was only able to put 150 rounds through it, mostly in pain. This did not help my aim one bit.. :)

The gun felt great, had no jams, FTF, or any problems. The magazines were very easy to load compared to my G22. Tried shooting it in double action mode, that was pretty ugly. I had never shot a pistol in double action before, need more practice. Groupings were pretty good when I was focused.

Overall the gun felt great and I am very happy with it. More practice will make it feel a lot better. I would recommend it to anyone who is considering it. However, I still like my Glock 22 more. That was my first and still favorite handgun.

Wedge,

Congratulations on your P99.

Do you license carry your Glock 22? Is it comfortable to carry?

So many pistols, so little money.

HA!! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.. I think I will win the lottery before I can get a CCW! :( sucks!!

It is a wonderful gun, and I would probably use it as my carry weapon should I ever be able to get a permit.

hehe I'm still trying to decide between the Steyr M-40 and the P99. That's one _Helluva_ long trigger pull for the DA on the P99...I don't know if I can get used to that..

I had a P99 and never quite got used to the trigger, had over 1000 rounds through it too.

Great gun.

The one thing I did learn rather rappidly (about 300 rds into it) is after you complete your trigger pull it is NOT necessary to let the trigger return to the full forward position and have to deal with all that safety take up. A little concentration and you will feel where the trigger resets. Once you feel the reset, you can squeeze off another round.

As an old single action man I never could get comfortable with this. But a friend with very little time with a handgun bought an S&W 99 (same trigger action) and mastered it quickly.

Give it a try......
