Shot my new Colt '91A1 today.

I brought my new model Colt 1991 to the range today with 50 rounds of UMC 230 gr. (That's all the .45 ammo I had left in the safe.:() The gun has very little recoil and the trigger pull is very smooth, but a little on the heavy side for a 1911. I am not used to the 1911 trigger or the thinness of the grip and I definitely need to practice with this thing. However, none of that was my main concern; I was looking out for reliability issues, as I do with all new guns. I know 50 rounds isn't a real test, but the gun had 0 malfunctions in all 50 rounds, which is great in my book. When all was said and done, I was pleased with my gun. I'm going to take it out there again with the usual few hundred rounds (instead of 50) next time.

I also took my SIG 229 in .40 along. I set up a target with 16 of those 1" Shoot-N-C dots spaced evenly apart. Results were good; I nailed every dot with only 2 flyers @ 10 yds.

I've heard people bad mouth them about reliability here, but I've owned 2, one very early model and the other a few years old at most. Both have never malfunctioned in any way shape or form. Based on that I think they are great guns.

Thats good to know. I have a basic blued 1991A1 that I have never shot too. I just keep forgetting to take it to the range. Actually, your post about the Sig 229 .40 reminded me that I need to get my 229 .40 out to the range too.

.357Sig,

Greetings, I have a Colt 1991A1 that I've owned for 2 years. It has about 1000 rounds through it now with zero defects of any type. No failures, jams or bobbles. It has been so faithful and reliable so far that its one of the few handguns I own I'd trust to carry. I think these newer Colts are just fine. My Kimber Pro-Carry has had multiple failures to feed. It's a range gun only. Glad you like yours. Cheers, Cryoman

PS. Gun tied for best reliability? My Glock 32 in .357Sig :)

I recently bought a new Colt as well. In 200 rounds the only malfunction was likely due to the magazine. The round sprung up and jammed by almost coming out of the ejection port. Just toss the factory mag in the trash and buy some Wilson or Metalform magazines.

I doubt it. I'm starting to like the basic GI 1911 look. The only thing I may do is lighten or smooth the trigger a little. As I understand, the Colt Series 80 trigger can't be lightened as much as most others due to the firing pin safety.
