Just to let everyone know I went to the range yesterday with a friend, While shooting steel animal silhouettes with AR a5's and finnish mosins my friend brought out his Garand. He had never shot it before and neither had I. this thing is beautiful!! He didn't buy it from the CMP but it has a brand new wood stock and reparked metal parts. I then got to load it my prior knowledge of doing this comes from watching some recent nutnfancy videos and Call of Duty 2 but it really wasn't that hard. And I had no problems with the supposed garand thumb.

In fact I had to wack the charging handle forward after seating the en bloc clip. On the first shot at 100 yards i wacked a steel chicken at 100 yards :D my friend missed, Overall it just makes me want one even more. Now just to save up the money :(. It will be a while, also the recoil was negligible much like my cetme and I was able to put rapid fire shots on man sized targets at 100 yards pretty readily while standing. Did I mention I love this gun, sorry I'm just gushing a bit lol.

A Garand is next on my list. Just bough a Swiss K31, so it may be 6 months, but hopefully the CMP still has them available. The Garand just seems like too much fun. It's got everything going for it,

I just fired my buddy's mid-2 million.... its was really fun.... I have had a service grade Springer on order for about 2 weeks from cmp

Isn't that akin to flying a plane after playing Flight Simulator?;)

Irish, you'll like that K-31.

Took it to the range already, it's a blast. Very accurate and pretty soft shooting, despite the steel buttplate.

Can't wait to get my hands on a Garand though. I've got plenty of 30-06 brass brass, so I'll hit the ground running on some reloads for it.

I got my Garand from (then) DCM. $112.70 delivered to Anchorage in 1981 or so.

I was shooting for the NG and was going to leave on Friday for a High Power Match in Hawaii.

My Garand arrived on Thursday. I took it out of the box, looked at the M14 in my shooting case and said, "What the Heck". Took the M14 out and put the M1 in the case.

My first shots were the 200 yard standing sighters. Shot the match first time I fired the rifle..........didn't do that bad either if I remember right.

Wasn't the first time I handled a Garand though. That was in '67. I was on leave on my way to Vietnam and got an invite to (parachute) jump with my brothers Reserve SF Unit. They were using M1s at the time so I had to jump with the M1 strappped on.

I had this weird dream that someone left a bunch of surplus rifles in my mail box and one was an M1C garand with the offset scope. weird
