I bought a 300 Ultra Mag in 1999 in a Model 700 BDL. It's the most accurate rifle I own; and I do own some other Remington rifles. I've been able to shoot three shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards right out of the box. I use the Remington Premier cartridge with the 180 Grain Nosler Partition bullet.
The trigger is crisp; not too heavy, not too light.
The recoil is really something else. Ten consecutive shots from a bench while wearing a light shirt is about all I care to shoot. It's much better with a heavy parka on and a cheek pad on the stock.
This rifle is kind of a luxury. I bought it for taking long shots on deer or elk. I hunt in an area where I can expect to take shots as long as 400 yards. As it happens l've shot one deer with it so far at 175 yards. That deer was dead on contact.
