Today (well it's well after midnight so I guess yesterday would be more accurate) I shot a Bersa for the first time.
I had been thinking about them some time ago but the price simply scared me away (I live in an area where most guns are anywhere from a little overpriced to insanely overpriced and Bersa started at about $220). Though I've always been interested in them I didn't want to get junk. Then, a week or two ago, I started reading all kinds of good stuff about them here on TFL. I've also started hearing about them from other sources as well.
Needless to say, I am again interested in Bersa, only now the price is a selling point. If I can get a good, reliable and accurate gun for under $250 new I'd be insane to pass it up. One dealer nearby has a two-tone model for $215.
I was at a range today that actually had one sitting in the rental case. I just went to browse before the gun show started but I decided I may as well rent it to see if I actually liked the gun (I won't buy there though, as the rental is selling for $260- I'll buy from the cheaper dealer).
The gun was incredibly accurate, at 25 feet I emptied several mags into the target and decided I'd better move the target back as I put several shots right in the middle of the target (almost through the same hole) and almost the entire box of ammo was in the black. This with a small concealable gun and I'm not a good shot yet.
I didn't shoot it that much but I didn't have any reliablity issues.
It felt great in my hand. While it is a small gun the grips were long enough that I could get all my fingers on it. It seemed well made. Also, I've heard (here mostly) that recoil in a .380 can sometimes be fairly strong due to the design of the guns made in that caliber but I actually found the amount of felt recoil to be just about perfect (enough to feel like I'm shooting a gun but very comfortable).
This gun is really starting to call my name. I probably won't be able to resist it too long. I'd bet that it will be in my collection (ha, I would need many more guns before that term would be accurate) within a couple months (still may get the Taurus PT911 first though).
