Shot a Bersa for the first time.

Today (well it's well after midnight so I guess yesterday would be more accurate) I shot a Bersa for the first time.

I had been thinking about them some time ago but the price simply scared me away (I live in an area where most guns are anywhere from a little overpriced to insanely overpriced and Bersa started at about $220). Though I've always been interested in them I didn't want to get junk. Then, a week or two ago, I started reading all kinds of good stuff about them here on TFL. I've also started hearing about them from other sources as well.

Needless to say, I am again interested in Bersa, only now the price is a selling point. If I can get a good, reliable and accurate gun for under $250 new I'd be insane to pass it up. One dealer nearby has a two-tone model for $215.

I was at a range today that actually had one sitting in the rental case. I just went to browse before the gun show started but I decided I may as well rent it to see if I actually liked the gun (I won't buy there though, as the rental is selling for $260- I'll buy from the cheaper dealer).

The gun was incredibly accurate, at 25 feet I emptied several mags into the target and decided I'd better move the target back as I put several shots right in the middle of the target (almost through the same hole) and almost the entire box of ammo was in the black. This with a small concealable gun and I'm not a good shot yet.

I didn't shoot it that much but I didn't have any reliablity issues.

It felt great in my hand. While it is a small gun the grips were long enough that I could get all my fingers on it. It seemed well made. Also, I've heard (here mostly) that recoil in a .380 can sometimes be fairly strong due to the design of the guns made in that caliber but I actually found the amount of felt recoil to be just about perfect (enough to feel like I'm shooting a gun but very comfortable).

This gun is really starting to call my name. I probably won't be able to resist it too long. I'd bet that it will be in my collection (ha, I would need many more guns before that term would be accurate) within a couple months (still may get the Taurus PT911 first though).

If you're looking for someone to talk you out of it, you've come to the wrong place!

Get it. You'll enjoy it.

Maryland?

You'd better snatch one up before Maryland's Attorney General says you can't.

The first thing I did upon moving to Georgia last year was to get a carrying permit as a protest against Maryland's anti-gun mentality. (Also to do my tiny part to let Osama know every single American has him in his or her sights . . .)

The Bersa is sweet, and I'm going to get one. It's sleek, reliable (I'm told), and inexpensive compared to other models. The price here is about $212 for the blued model. You'll like it.

By the way, the other statements are political only -- I always carry my permit, but I only carry a gun when I am truly concerned for my safety or on those few occasions when I have an overpowering personal need to exercise my Constitutional rights!

Have lots of fun with your Bersa at the range. Hope you never, ever have to shoot it anywhere else.

One of the reasons I'm in such a hurry to buy so many guns just one year after starting. The AG here is very anti-gun, says that no law abinding citizen should own one. He has directed his people to find every possible loophole and novel interpretation of current laws to take away as many gun rights as possible. He is also constantly lobbying for new gun laws and he is very influential. His influence is bound to only increase into the future as his son-in-law is the very popular mayor of Baltimore (and probably future governor, possibly as soon as the next election if he runs) Martin O'Malley. I actually like O'Malley on many issues but given his ties he scares me as much about guns as the rest.

Already many models and brands of guns can't be sold here.

CCW is virtually impossible. I'd be shocked if one of the next targets is small concealable pistols and snub revolvers as they have 'no legitimate' purpose in Maryland (with a possible exception for LEOs of course).

AG Curran's long term goal is to see a Maryland with no private gun ownership. He is going about it one step at a time. I'd be shocked if this isn't already in his sights and small guns are banned in a year or two (by the time we hear about it it will be a done deal). I'd also be shocked, if things don't change (and trust me I'm trying to change them), if it was still legal to buy ANY handgun (possibly longguns too) in MD in 5-10 years.

If I could have one here in MD I would and when I move I will. For me it isn't political though. I've been assulted once (just over 10 years ago) by a group of people and ended up in the emergency room. I've had several other situations that turned out ok but could have become ugly (it would have been nice to have more effective means of self defense than my fists should the situations have escalated). I have friends who have been robbed at gunpoint and are only here because the BG didn't sneeze or get too scared. I have a friend whose uncle was murdered simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. My neighborhood is slowly but surely being taken over by drug syndicates (some small time dealers but also some of the FL to NYC guys) and this is a relatively affluent area. I want a CCW permit not for political reasons (though politically I would like for MD to be more pro-all-of-the-consititution, including the 2nd Amendment instead of only those parts that liberals like) but because I want to grow old without needing to be barracaded in my home (though if you can do it for political reasons I'm happy for you).

It is getting hard to resist.:D Very nice gun at a great price. Why can't more manufacturers do this?
