Shorter M14 mags?

Ive seen these 5rd mags, and they should be perfect for the 200yd 5rd slow fire from the standing.

my question is, has anything been invented, like a floor plate with a spring+follower (like on bolt action rifles) for the M14 to make it look more like an M1 Garand..with nothing sticking out of the mag well?


and, are there any tactical synthetic stock M14s under $1K?

If I am not mistaken (I shot mostly M1 Garand in competition), for the standing position using an M1A (or M14) the left arm is tucked against the left side and the bottom of the magazine is used to hold the gun. With a short magazine that would not be possible. Can some M1A competition shooters help here?

I have several 5 round mags for my M1-A. One of them fits flush with the stock, but I has no markings on it. Think I traded a 5 round AR mag for it.

"...that Chinese crap..." The early Norinco and Polytech rifles that made it into the U.S. before the Clinton ban were questionable, but current rifles are not 'crap'. Can't be imported Stateside anyway. They're not being made anymore either.
"...tactical synthetic stock..." There's no such thing as a 'tactical' anything. It's a marketing term only. If you're paying a grand for any stock, you're very new.

tactical as in tactical colors (OD green or black =/=wood)
I need the mag to be flushed with the stock because of my standing stance (Im used to M16s)

is there anything cheaper than Springfield's M1As?
It feels uncommon that a $1K M14 is the only choice

who would pay 1K for a stock?

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

The Chinese made M14s seem to be hit and miss. I had a Polytech M14 before getting the Springfield, and had no issues with it. It was accurate enough, and ran fine for years.
A buddy had a Norinco that would not shoot better than about 5 MOA no matter what he fed it.
At the range once, I saw a guy have the op rod disconnect from the bolt on a Polytech. He said it happened once in a while when he was shooting quickly.

Keep an eye out at shows and shops. I got a deal on a used M1A scout for under $900. It was a retired LE gun, the stock had some "trunk wear" but the metal, bolt, and bore were in perfect condition.
