Other then some loss in velocity, is there any reason not to? I am looking for a used one and if I find what I want but has a 24" barrel, I would like it in 22". I What is the going cost to do that and recrown it, and what crown style is best if there is a better one then another?
TIA,
Bob

Not much loss in velocity but 2" I don;t think is worth the trouble. If there is a problem with the muzzle then get it recrowned and maybe shortened. A good crowning job is more important than a particular type.

Brownells chart on typical gunsmithing jobs shows cut and crown for $35-$95.
A wide range but the best I can do.
I paid $75 but that included reinstallation of a front sight. I assume you are a scope shooter with no need for a front sight, so cost should be less. Maybe.

I don't know what you expect to gain by a 2" change in barrel length.

2 inches of tube is not going to change much but if you want to slice the two inches off I suggest going to a machinist so he can cut the barrel square and then get a crowning tool from Pacific tool and gague. In my opinion they make the best ones for a decent price.

If you hunt brushy woods, you need a short barrel if you expect snap shots while moving. If you pause frequently, or if you hunt from a hide or stand, any length barrel is fine, and 22 or 24 inches is not even close to an issue worth spending time and money on.
