Short Barreled Shotgun

Does anyone here carry a legally registered short barreled shotgun? If so, I have a couple questions.

1) Does your state's CHL extend to a short barreled shotgun the same as it allows handguns to be carried?

2) What configuration do you carry? (ie: pump, semi, O/U, SxS)

I am thinking that a nice O/U 12 ga would be the best platform for one. For those that might think this thread is impractical or stupid, keep in mind, many of us spend money on multiple shotguns, rifles, and/or handguns. Some buy supressors or rifles with folding stocks. Is one more toy really a bad idea? ;)

The Super-Shorty only requires the $5 AOW transfer tax since they use Maverick recievers that were meant for pistol gripped Shotguns in "cruiser" config, but were never assembled to a complete shotgun with a full 18"+ barrel, thus do not require the $200 short barrel tax.

Use with the Aquilla Mini-Shells might be interesting.

People disagree on this, but here's my $0.02....

When a shotgun is cut down that short, it's a heavy, awkward handgun and not a shoulder arm. It's as a shoulder arm that the shotgun is really impressive. As a handgun it not well off compared to the Government Model, my off duty choice.

That shorty probably weighs as much as TWO GMs, and holds 3-4 rounds.First shot probability is lower than the GM, and while that shot is very powerful, power doesn't mean diddly unless you HIT with it. If other shots are needed, the "Chops" on a GM,Medium frame 38-357,etc, are easier to get off fast and get hits with.

However, if one is looking for a neat toy, have at it.
 
Would it be legal to put a folding stock one the Shorty? Or could I ask Mr. Serbu to put one on for me? I like it, but would prefer to have a [folding] stock for more control, in a compact package for backpacking.
 
Better check with the BATF as to the legality thereof. I'm no fan of folders or PGs, but this shorty with a folding stock would be a better backpacker than the Snake Charmer. The difference in price and weight may or may not be crucial.

Due to the location of the safety, I've reservations about a folder, AND as a PG.
 
Well....

You cannot attach a buttstock to an AOW, period. If you want a SBS and a buttstock it will have to be a $200 tax. Cheapest route to go is probably through a manufacturer.
I own an Ithaca Model 37 'Stakeout' (AOW) that I keep for a 'housegun', along with 1911A1 type. Hth

I talked to Mark about his Super-Shorty SG and there was another surprising thing I found about it. With that short of a barrel, some types of loads would never really get up to full pressure in the short barrel and weren't anywhere near as powerful than if they had been fired in a longer barrel.

I have to admit I would still want one for the cool factor but that is about it. I would much prefer a Sage Int'l Sidewinder as a shot SG.
 
Thanks for the info, tho this point is moot for me.

FYI, I understand that a CCW holder here in Liberal #$%^ Md can carry a loaded shoulder arm in a vehicle owned by him/her. I like the idea of a legal truck gun.
