Shooting without a forend on Thompson Contender?

Is this a bad idea? Looking to increase accuracy off a benchrest. Seems like it would be even better than floating a forend. Assuming you checked the hinge pin for shifting during shooting, what else could influence accuracy?

you aren't going to see an change in TC accuracy by leaving the fore end off. they usually shoot really good without any help of any kind.

Every time I've seen testing on barrel lengths that they can cut up at will, they use T/C Contenders and Encores. You can (obviously) chop a barrel up but by bit and the only thing you lose besides length is a barrel. Easily and relatively cheap to replace, so it's a perfect platform for these kinds of tests.

My point? Every time anyone doing the testing snaps pictures, they are doing all the testing without a fore end. All is well.

I don't know how much difference it will make in accuracy testing, but as long as you keep an eye on the pin, I think it won't hurt at all, and I can't see it as any kind of a safety issue.

Good stuff, TYVM. Ive got a feeling Im just not a good enough shot to notice any difference, lmao. But was curious what you all thought.

In theory, you are correct and have concerns about imposed stresses on the front end of the barrel. Some have "O"-Rings that help on isolation. However, if you take a second look, you will see that the forend is actually floating with the barrel and there are no additional points that are stressing the barrel. I'd say on these contrenders it would make little or no differnence on accuracy. Now, on the hindge pin, they do make a after market pin that is help in place by a fastener and wil not slip out. Might also add that my Contenders are capable of shooting better that I am capable of shooting.

Be Safe !!!

Think, my T/C G2 .357 Rem Maximum 14" bull barrel is little bit accurate with rynite stocks than rubber.
Never tryed without front stocks.
For .22 Hornet and 9mm Luger 10" bull barrels, I have only rynite front stocks

I have 3 forends for my 3 barrels, 2 fit loose, almost floating as mentioned above. One however, squeaks for 3 or 4 turns of the forend screw as the barrrel and forend tighten together. I may try shooting that barrel w/o forend.
