This may be kind of a dumb question but i was wondering about the difference between Rifled slugs and normal slugs.
I own a Mossberg Maverick with a 20 in barrel and no choke.
Can i shoot Rifled slugs?
Can i shoot sabot slugs?
i just want to make sure i dont mess up my new never been fired shotgun
~thanks

Rifled slugs are to be shot through smooth bore barrels.
They aren't for use in rifled bores.

The sabot slugs can be fired through both, but accuracy won't be very good in a smooth bore, since the sabot slugs are specifically designed for rifled bores.

The appropriate ammo for your Mossberg is rifled slugs.
Forget the sabot slugs.

Foster type slugs are the way to go. They are really pretty accurate out to 100 yds and you don't have to buy a new barrel.

You said "no choke"? Doesn't your shotgun have a choke? They say that improved cylinder choke is best for rifled slugs. But, I don't use a shotgun for hunting deer. It is handgun or rifle for me; usually handgun these days. Really makes deer hunting fun!!! Could be frustrating if you see that 12 pt out at 150 yds though.

I had a mossberg similar to your maverick. Mine had a fixed modified choke. It shot rifled slugs fine. Now heres where it getts tricky. My Baikal shotgun shoots slugs most acurately out of the 3 chokes with modified. My Ithaca has a smooth bore cylinder no choke (like yours) and shoots slugs very acurately. More so than my Baikal with any choke. Also different rifled slugs will act differently in your gun. And the expensive will not neccesarily be the best for your gun. Try a few different rifled slugs and see which gives you the best results.

in my mossberg smoothbore barrel. brenekee ko slugs shoot the best and they are not all that expensive like $3 from sportsmans guide

thats what i like to hear

cheap accurate ammo! I was planning on buying 5 or 6 different kinds of slugs for it to see what worked best. THanks for the help guys.
