Which firerarms do prefer to shoot: handguns, rifles, or shotguns? Not which ones you necessarily shoot most often, but which one you enjoy most.

I would probably be willing to give up shooting all long guns for the rest of my LIFE before I'd even entertain the thought of getting rid of just one or two of my favorite handguns even if I could keep a slew of others.

I rarely shoot shotgun these days even though I was a 200-hulls-a-week skeet shooter 25 years ago. And with rifles, I have some fun on a rifle range day and I enjoy a varmint hunting trip out west annually.

But I'm a handgun guy and there's no mincing words. I don't look at long guns at gun shops or gun shows and I go to around 10 gun shows each year. I hardly ever click on GB auctions or classified ads for long guns. I do handload for them a little bit, but literally do more than 15k a year of handgun ammo at the load bench.

Everything about handguns appeals to me far more than the others and it's not anywhere close.

Old fashioned, that's me.
Rifles are for precision distance shooting, pistols are for when the bad guys got too close & you're out of grenades.

I gave up trapshooting quite some time back when it started getting so expensive and trap ranges started disappearing from the face of the earth. Then it developed into shooting handguns for months and switching to rifles for months at a time, etc. Currently in the rifle phase, lever actions, M-1 Garands, but mostly about ten belted magnum bolt rifles that I load down or they would hardly ever get shot. I do not do any hunting. The down loading is done with Trail Boss powder that is becommimg more and more difficult to come by. Also mostly using cast lead bullets for rifle loads--also difficult to find a source with a wide variety of calibers.

I enjoy shooting rifles sometimes, but I have to shoot at a range and 200 yards is the maximum range. I like shooting my 22 rifles at 100 yards since that is pushing the limits for a 22. I enjoy shooting handguns more because there is more challenge for me due to the possible shooting distances plus the other differences in using a handgun.

When I find myself on the rifle range doing rifles with my shooting buddy, I do have fun. And if he's having fun (and/or actually attempting to dial something in...) and doesn't care to leave the rifle range and wishes to stay, I'm happy to stay also. It's typically at that point that I dig a handgun out and shoot rifle distances with it, just for fun.

Ends up being a heap of fun. Reminds me quickly that I'm just a handgun gun, always shall be, won't ever be close. (not that I'd forget)
