Shooting on "Dad's Day"

We hosted a "mans" day at my place in the country.
My former sarge from the police force, his 3 step sons, & my 14 yr. old hosted a "range day".
Brought to my place were an AK 47, AK 74, both supressed, several .45 autos, a couple 9mms, my .357's & 2 of my black powder .44 caliber 6 guns.
The visitors had never experienced shooting black powder & all took turns having fun with arms of yesteryear.
I shot a couple mags worth of AK 47 & AK 74 ammo with supressors & was impresssed how well they worked. 'Bout like a sharp crack from a .22 magnum.
The step ons are all grown, one served 10 years in the Army & pulled tours in Iraq & Afganistan. Nice, fellow indeed.
We shot some .45 auto 230 grain personal defense rounds into water jugs and they expanded impressively.
The 12 bores were an 870 & 11-87, equiped with all the "tacti-cool" add on's.
They were fun to shoot but were heavy to carry.
I'd not want all that for a hunting s.g.
All & all it was a great, safe, day and everyone got in lots of shooting.
The day was topped off with a cook-out at sarge's place with burned bergers, brats, & dogs, Pepsie & Coke.

We had something like that the week before at a quasi-family reunion. a couple 1911's. various 22's (1911, a Buckmark, an M&P) an AR, a couple Reminton 700 BDL's in various calibers, a Ruger No 1 in 375 H&H, and a couple S&W 460's. We had some steel plate targets from the pistol range created on site for some highschool pistol teams, a cardboard sheet with peel and stick target squares, and a self-healing prairie Dog on a spring. Oh and one of the girls shot up a pound of Tannerite.

The Prairie Dog that looked like this one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/49...-target-self-healing-polymer-with-action-base was probably the most popular. One uncle took a liking to peppering it with the 375 H&H. The dog itself held up well, but if you plan on duplicating this idea, build a front wall around the base and spring area. We had a 45 shoot low enough to hit the base which ricocheted up into the spring itself. By the time we were done, the dog flopped around like it was drunk. Still shootable though, and great fun. The only firearm that didn't seem to move it very much was the AR.

shot a bit

Bamaboy and bamawife gave me a "cow bell target" fro the "do-All" company, for Dad's Day, and the last bit of the evening I wanged away at it with the Ruger 77/22.

Poorly I might add, as I could not seem to get the hold right, (tad over 100 yds) and the black bell was hard to see against the sand filled tires of my backstop.
Painted the bell today, and got consistent hits from sitting.

About $20.00 bucks, and no doubt at all when you hit this one. BONG!!!!
