Shooting/Marksmanship training material

I hesitated to post this on this forum for fear it will get lost among all the other stuff, but here goes anyway.

My young almost 13 year old neighbor boy has expressed an interest in learning more about shooting and doing some actual shooting as well. His dad is a gun owner and a fairly active shooter himself, but you know how that goes - the kids want to hear it from someone other than "the old man", so anyway.

I'm looking for good web sites that I can steer this boy to, for him to use as a resource for beginner shooter/marksmanship information. I've given him my copy of Cooper's "Art of the Rifle", to read. I told him to skip over the parts he doesn't understand and we'll work through those later. I think you get the idea - I'm looking for any kind of reading material for this boy, that we can use to build his knowledge, but I want it to be at his age and knowledge level and something that won't "scorch" his eyes or ears (or his mother's) when he reads it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If "the people" in the 1st, 4th, 9th & 10th amendments, means "the people", why do some folks think "the people" in the 2nd amendment means "the state"?

You need to find an NRA approved Pistol or Rifle course, and point him toward that first...IMHO. Either that, or if you're serious about teaching, look into becoming an instructor, and don't stop with the boy. We all have something that we can be doing for our cause, and this is my choice. Could it be yours? If not, maybe an Instructor near you could let you borrow his training materials.

Agree with Frontsight! in getting the kid hooked up with a certified NRA rifle instructor. You can only learn so much from reading and at some point, the kid has to put in some "trigger time." It's also important to have a coach because the kid's learning style may not be audio or visual but kinesthetic (hands on learning experience).

Frontsight;

I'm in the process of getting the proper certification to be an "official" instructor myself and I intend to teach him the hands-on stuff as well, but what I am looking for is study material for him to look at on his own. He's really fired up about this and he's looking to "devour" anything he can find about shooting. It's kind of refreshing too - he's not just "gun nutty". He's genuinely interested in what I call "Shooting" - gun history, ballistics, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

Kurt

P.S. As you say, I don't intend to stop with this boy either. I also believe that this can be "my contribution". ;)

P.P.S. Cawdor - Thanks for the links. They're very helpful.
