I live in baton rouge right now and really wanna go out and shoot my sg. But i the only place i know of to go is the range, which is 15$ plus the cost of ammo and i cant fire buck shot or slugs. DOes anyone here know of anywhere in the baton rouge area go to and putter round with a gun?

thanks!

Make friends in denham springs, other than that I remember some state park or somesuch about an hour from east baton rouge...can't remember name or direction though. Might could be googled.

I just moved from BR about a year ago. There is a state owned range near Krotz Springs in the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area. It's about a 30-45 minute drive from LSU. You have to have a LA hunting lisence with the wildlife managament area fee paid ($15? annually). You also have to fill out a little form when you get there so they know that you're there. The game wardens come by every so often to make sure that you filled out the form, and there is a couple hundred dollar fine if you didn't. They have a rifle and pistol range, and two skeet courses (high house and low house), and maybe an archery range as well. The times that I have been out there it hasn't been too crowded at all, but I've heard that closer to gun season, it can get a little crowded.
I've also heard about some of the Parishes having sheriff department ranges that are open to the public, but I don't know if they would have a skeet course or trap range for recreational purposes or not.

Nice to learn of SHERBURNE

You can look up Wildlife Management Areas on the internet.
The cheapest La license is a cane pole license. I had to get one to shoot on a WMA. (Honey Island Swamp) It was around $4. Internet only. Local stores were $15.

Also look up gun ranges on the internet. There is Southern Shooters range in Thibodeaux that is really nice. There sport clay field seem impressive. Not for the faint of wallet. $200 a year. I was a guest. 300yd rifle & multiple pistol ranges.

Another option is the NRA. The meeting are a chance to meet others in the know.

I used to race on the velodrome on highland
Enjoy the BR Traffic,
