Shooting different Pistols

I have noticed that with my Springfield 1911 in 45ACP, or my Glock 19, my accuracy is acceptable, however with my Springfield XDS (45 ACP) it scatters a little but with my Taurus PT740 (40 cal) I cannot put two bullets into the same zipcode. I will work on that.

Smaller guns are more difficult to shoot well due to the short sight radius. Concentrate very carefully on the front sight. Stop shooting when you are just wasting ammo on bad groups.

Grip thickness plays a role as well with the smaller single stack designs. I decided early on that I prefer something closer to a G26 in terms of grip width, as the smaller guns shift around (I have to concentrate on aligning my trigger finger).

That negative aspect really depends on the person and their hand size though.

I've had three .40s that I couldn't shoot well. Other folks could shoot tiny little groups with them. One of them was SIG P226 X-Five, the others were a well-tuned Glock 35 (the 34 was a favorite) and a M&P Pro with all sorts of APEX upgrades. (My similarly-equippped M&P Pro in 9mm is also a favorite.) Other .40s don't cause me problems.

Some guns just don't fit or work with every shooter.

People underestimate the effect of ergonomics on both accuracy and felt recoil. This is why I try to avoid recommending a specific make/model gun whenever someone asks for advice here - past a certain point, the differences between guns is mostly on the user.

Agree with the above comment. But I also think that people underestimate the importance of practice & repetition, including dry & live fire practice. Say what you want about Glock pistols, but once I gave up on the 22, and learned to shoot my 17 & 21 with better fundamentals (grip, stance, trigger control, sight alignment and sight picture), even though Glocks are not real comfortable for me to shoot, I started shooting all my other guns better.
