Shooting consistently to the right

I'm sure that ths issue has been addressed in other posts, but I will ask anyway. First, I should mention I am a lefty. Now, on to my question.

I consistently shoot groups on almost all semi-autos to the left, and usually a little low. I took my new Glock 23 out last weekend and was shooting 4-5" groups at 15 yards (which is pretty good for me), but the groups were all in the lower right hand quadrant of the target. Same thing with my new Sig Hammerli (although much tighter groups). I tried different stances (I don't know all the names), but that didn't seem to help. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I would like to find a good resource on proper shooting techniques, i.e., different grips and stances, how to breath, how to keep still.

Sounds like you may be jerking the trigger. When you shoot, try putting the first crease of the index finger over the trigger and gently roll it back. Don't think about the recoil, it can't hurt you. Concentrate on the trigger and let the shot surprise you.

We see this all the time. Comes from squeezing the grip as you shoot. Try a damn firm grip and use ONLY the trigger finger. Should go away. Also happens in rapid fire as the grip loosens between shots. Keep squeezing but not so much you tremble. The gun is trying to get out of your hand (that is recoil) and a rubber grip also helps a lot. If the gun fits your hand and the grip doesn't allow movement and you keep a firm tight grip and use ONLY the trigger finger you'll be fine.

PlusP is right about the grip. The muscles that work your fingers are sympathetic to each other. When one contracts they all want to contract. With a hard grip on the gun the other fingers are already under tension and so won't move when the trigger finger is put under tension.

I experienced this personally last week. I was shooting at 15 yards and the shots were to the left in the nine ring. One of the RSOs behind me told me to squeeze harder. I did. Immediately my shots were chewing the X-ring. Something that simple can make the difference.

Mr. Mulroy instructed me on self-defense shooting and he is correct. I can fire as fast as the gun will feed and never shoot off target and at my age that is something.
It is amazing how notice of very basic things will make such a big impact on how well we do. Cheers.
