Shooting bags/bench?

I know nothing about shooting bags, benches....but I want to buy something I can use at the range to steady myself when I shoot rifles or handguns.

I see there are shooting bags filled with filler for handguns and a double-bag setup for rifles. Is there by chance a dual-bag setup that can be used for both rifles and a handguns? Or do you need to buy a one + two bag setup for both?

Recommendations would be welcome.

Thank you.

I don't see why you couldn't use the double bag for pistols too by just putting your arm in the channel. But I don't use a rest when shooting my pistols.

I make my own sandbags from various basics: Old shirt sleeves, old pants legs, bank zipper bags, shot bags...

I commonly put a piece of 4x4 under the front sandbag under the forearm of my rifle.

Yeah, I'm a cheapskate. :D

I used to own the Shooter's Ridge Zero Kick rifle rest. As I remember you could turn the front rest 90* and use it as a pistol rest. The rest would be sticking out to the right or left, so you would need a little table space. I was very happy with it, I just decided to switch over to a bipod. It was very adjustable, well built and solid as they come.

Funny you should say that. I just finished my "research" and came to the same conclusion. I bought the Bulls Bag about 5 minutes ago.

Thanks!

I use an old Bulls Bag and have a support under it to get it to just the right height for me. That and a small eared bag for the butt of the rifle, and all is good - unless I'm having a bad day with my shooting.
