Shooting at Tulsa Gun Show

Boys, the media is going to have a field day with this.
Here are the events as told to me by a friend that was there working security. An ex-deputy (now works for a police equipment company) attended the gun show and had a Glock 10mm pistol. The firearm was safety checked at the door and a zip tie was applied locking the trigger to the rear (don't ask me why). At some point he exited the gun show, retrieved a magazine from his vehicle, re-entered the show. There (according to him) two rounds in the magazine. He was showing it to someone, racked the slide and KABOOM! The bullet entered the leg of a 57 year old male bystander, shattered the femor, exited that leg and lodged in his other leg.

Now that's the story I got from my friend. I don't know any other details at this point. But the local media was there in force and by the time most of you read this, it will probably be on CNN. What a blow to gun shows and our rights. And, what poor timing.

If anybody who attended knows further, let us know. I couldn't attend because of work. Kind of glad I didn't now!

Idiot.

I see they arrested his sorry a$$ for wreckless use of a firearm.... good!

More "ammo" for the anti gun crowd.. :(

Around the trigger? At shows, we stupid ridgerunners, run a tie-wrap either down the barrel and out the port, or up the mag chute and out the port.

Pampers, that's the way they usually do it here. Don't know why they did it this way. We have had some incidents where when showing the guns to others, if you racked the slide or released it, it would cut the zip ties off. ????? Anyway, I thought in order for Glock to fire, even when cycling the slide, you had to release the trigger at least so far before pulling back and get it to fire???? Was this a malfunction of the pistol as well as idiot behind it? We may never know all the details. I pity the poor victim. Haven't heard how he's doing but he could lose one or both his legs.

Put that moron in jail and sue him for the max. Perhaps his homeowner policy can cough off bucks for the victim.

Unfortunately, the show will be sued also.

Sounds like the tying was strange also. As others said, you block the slide from closing.
That might be grounds for the suit against the show.

Just read the paper, thanks Curuzer. Don't know if I believe this story or the one my friend told me. He was there. And the dadgummed media has misquoted me on a number of occasions.

The gun should not have fired if the trigger was held back by the zip tie. That's what the disconnector is for, that's what keeps the gun from going full auto with one trigger pull.

I will not comment on what degree of idiot this guy is until I learn all the facts, but I bet the zip tie was loose and he pulled the trigger with his finger.

Whether the gun should or shouldn't have fired with the trigger tied back, whether the gun malfunctioned or not are not the overriding issues with this idiot. No gun in hand should ever be pointed at anyone you don't plan to shoot - period. Even in a very crowded gun show, it isn't impossible to follow that rule. That is, assuming you know the rule.

There is a thread in General with a bit more info. The shooter was a dealer set up at the show that is how he had a loaded mag.
