Shooting at Plusp's house.

Yesterday morning a young male was shot next to my house. I was home on the PC and wife and kid heard 8-9 shots. Within minutes a man was banging on the back door (which was locked) trying to get in to use a phone. I refused to open the door and he made repeated attempts to get in. Door was dead bolted, solid core and opened outward. He fled as police arrived.
As soon as the area was secure I shot some pictures which I will post tonight when I get home from a TV interview. The shots were probably a .22 and the kid is in the hospital after several hours of surgery. No arrests have been made. No clue why this happened and I know the family well and this is not their type of activity.
Let this be a lesson about LOCKED doors. Someone left my back hallway door unlocked and everyone gets mad when I complain about it being left unlocked. Attitude on that seems to have changed. Lock those doors.
(told you I lived in a bad neighborhood)
Anyone want to buy a duplex?

A few days ago, the neighbor who lived across the street was strangled. Much excitement.
Might be the ex-husband.

Today, a strange car pulled into the victim's drive way. The whole neighborhood called the law who arrived like thunder and we still don't know who they caught.

All of us are checking the door. When I go through at the trash, the boss asks me to be sure I'm packing.

And I live in a nice neighborhood.

We always keep the doors locked, and we always have a firearm within reach. Don't ever expect to use the firearm, and don't really expect a visitor coming through the door. We live is a very nice neighborhood.

Also don't expect my house to burn down, or to become disabled.

Well, back to paying the bills ... home insurance, disability insurance ... ;)

Such a good thing, that you were home... and armed... and had the knowledge, intelligence and experience to have handled the situation, had it escalated to forced entry. I'm sure that there is at least one immediate neighbor that would have been completely overwhelmed, maybe even opened the door and become a hostage. Glad to hear that you & yours came through unscathed.

Sorry if the picture is a little big but it shows what happened. Still no news on what happened. Nobody is talking. As long as the shooter is loose I worry the fued if that is what it is may still be going on. One doesn't sleep well in such cases.

I just returned from a long work effort in Ireland. I am pleased to see this post. As one of his students the guy practices what he preaches. I'll be back in class Saturday to refresh those efforts. I'm not surprised he didn't shoot. That is what class is all about. I like someone with real experience.
By the way, things in Ireland are rather tame these days and with strong gun control laws they still have ample access to guns.

I just want to clarify, who is the man knocking at your door, is he the assassin, the victim, or a neighbor who want to report to the police.

If you have 1st hand knowledge and see by yourself of the shooting, why haven't you distinguish who is the one banging at your door.

The picture you provided is a picture taken after the incident when the cops arrived to pick up the victim, it is not the photo that you have taken during or on the progress of fighting or shooting.

What is this photo for: To enhance ones shooting skills, or would it helps ones defensive learning.

'm just inquiring, I wish you could clarify my doubts.

Thank you,

Pluspinc did well NOT to open the door. His very point is that he doesn't KNOW who the person was; he didn't observe the shooting. Letting a person in who might well have been the shooter would be foolish. First order--- protect your own family.

Of course he would want to call 911 ASAP, which I assume he did.

Well done. But then you knew that.

Personal Safety and safety of your family first and always first. You did right Pluspinc.

Good deal on your security measures. I'm just sorry that someone else had to learn at the poor kid's expense.
The joke here where I live, Norfolk, Virginia, is that you can tell that you live in a good neighborhood when you can only count the gunshots, instead of having to duck them!

I did catch Mr. Darrell at his residence this afternoon. He does indeed live in an interesting location. He has an outside door that leads to a back hallway which has a door that goes into his abode. The outside door was left unlocked. A valuable lesson in the value of locked doors.
He wanted me to promise not to tell that I caught him doing manual labor in some landscaping efforts. He actually had a tool in his hand.
He does allow myself and others to rummage about his office at will. Always interesting to see what he is working on.
His photo library from his news and police days are most informative. Cheers!
