Can shooting regular (non-tracer) ammo actually start a wildfire?...like the media would like us to believe?

It seems to me like reporting that a fire was started by target shooting is the media attempt to get anti-gun/anti-ammo legislation enacted.

(Mods: I just saw another thread on this very subject. )

Absolutely. If you have never seen a western drought you would never have any idea how absolutely tinder dry something could get. The spark of a bullet hitting a rock is enough to start a fire. Couple that with the idiot shooters who are shooting into tannerite, propane tanks, or using dragon's breath loads as well as dropping cigarette butts and you have plenty of opportunity for shooters to start fires.

Yes, fires can star from shooting non-tracer ammo like the media would like you to believe.

Of course, a lot of the people who do target shooting will shoot tracers as well as incendiary ammo, and even will shoot exploding targets.

Also, contrary to articles such as this one, lead-based ammo can spark as can FMJ.

So, what media is reporting that the fires were started by non-tracer ammo?

Tracers probably cause...

Of course, some people are just idiots and while target shooting, opt to go with shooting incendiary ammo. I have a feeling they were shooting Dragon's Breath or some such novelty ammo which is a stupid idea in dry brush...

And then you have the folks shooting exploding targets, of which 6 are reported as starting fires...

Obviously, the media is reporting a bunch of the wildfires being started by things other than regular, non-tracer ammo.
