Shooting a Red Jacket (aka Sons of Guns) AK

Give Atlantic a call, they say they have another shipment coming at some point. Since they are custom built rifles, they take a bit to arrive and given the price, they sell quickly.

I'd like one to support the guys but the bossman / owner, I can't stand him. He reminds me of the people who were bullies growing up cause they were fatter than other people. And really has any of their stuff been that impressive ? Dual M16s? Why ? Katana AR *** , and the rocket launcher that simply goes boom , thats Private piracy protection for you right there.

I’m sorry but the shows that I have seen, they are about as far from being gun smiths as I am.
They are little more than gun assemblers, nothing more. There is more painting than manufacturing.
+1 to tAKticool, the owner seems to be a jerk. The one show where they hired a new man and less than 4 hours later fired him because one of the other workers didn’t like him.
This kind of gun show does not promote firearms. It promotes gun nuts and makes it look like all people that own guns only want full autos and like making noise and being “cool” because of it.
That’s not me or the friends I shoot with.
P.S. I just wanted to add, ever notice how the owner of the shop no matter what is going on is always looking for where the camera is?
This show is about making money, not promoting guns.

While I won't defend the television show, you either enjoy it or hate it, I will comment on the quality of Red Jackets work.

What you see on the television show is pure fiction. They don't have customers coming in for dual M16's or rocket launchers. That's all Hollywood made-up silliness for the average Joe watching who knows next to nothing about firearms. Keep in mind that the show must appeal to the lowest common denominator to stay viable. Right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

What you see in the show with regards to their crew and shop isn't even 1/10th of what's really there. There are more employees than you see in the show. There's twice as much space (if not more) to their shop area, areas you never see in the show.

About their quality, RFJ has made a name for themselves (long before Sons of Guns) by making high quality AK's. They aren't just "builders" as someone above said, they are a full custom shop that can do just about anything you want done to an AK. Their work is held in pretty high regard in the AK community.

This rifle, which is a custom built rifle, is at a price point that puts it in the Arsenal price range. This rifle isn't expensive by current pricing standards, it's actually quite affordable. If you were to take a parts kit and go to any custom builder worth his salt, it would cost you at least $1000 to have this rifle built including the cost of the parts kit and barrel that you would have to supply. I have an already built Bulgarian Krink at Rifle Dynamics getting a new barrel and finish (I supplied the barrel) and it's costing me $425 just for that work alone. Throw in the cost of the barrel and I'm into the upgrades on my Krink for $550.

Atlantic Firearms has been working with RJF for around 12 years. They get volume discounts on their builds because they'll order 40+ rifles at a time to be built. That volume discount savings gets passed along to you. At $700 for a custom built AK by one of the biggest names in AK gunsmithing is a great deal IMHO, and I'm VERY happy with the purchase.

Sturmgewehre, how dare you use logic and have an informed opinion? I saw an episode on tv once, so certainly I am the subject matter expert on everything regarding the company!

Better yet, lower demand means the prices will stay lower.. believe what you see on tv, that's fine by me!

Sturm, big fan of your channel and reviews, keep up the good work, just wish I had the income to play with the toys you've been working with, but I'm pretty happy messing around with the good ol' milsurps :p.

Sons of Guns is to the firearm community as Pinks All Out is to the drag racing community.

It is a show, enjoy it for what it is or don't watch it.

I happen to think it's funny and watch it.

I can not stand Pinks All Out so I don't watch it.

American Chopper and all it's copycats:
Axe Men
Pawn Stars
Pinks
now Suns of Guns
and probably a dozen others.
We are a dumber nation because of shows like this which either manufacture false drama, or expose personal drama for the sake of a buck.
Anybody who is a motorcycle enthusiast, racer, or firearms owner, will suffer from shows like this because of how they portray us to the general populace. I hate shows like this and will avoid Red Jacket because of their association to the show, as long as there are any viable alternatives.

I won't comment on the show but the review, as always is concise and to the point while still being informitive and through. Great review as always. Keep them coming brother.

Would it be unreasonable to say I'd rather have an Arsenal ( they have a new NJ Legal version) or the Newly avail Vepr I keep hearing so much about ... Do they not count as good as a "custom" RJ?
