Shooting A Girls Pistol Now

Well this 68 yr old thing isn't what it's cracked up to be. We are starting a
new year of shooting and I'm finding out my pistols have gained weight over
the winter. They are heaver. Can't hold as steady as last year. The only one
I can hold steady is the 13 yr old daughters pistol. It is a little 32 and weights
2 lbs. So she is going to let Daddy use her pistol this year. Such is life

Here's my advice for gaining finger and hand strength to help your hand have a better steadier hold. Twirl your unloaded BP six gun revolvers over a bed or couch cushions cause you WILL drop it as you learn to twirl. You will find that it will build up your finger, hand and even arm strength. And it's fun too! You will feel your fingers, hand and arm get tired. Just like squeezing a ball or lifting weights. That's your muscles and tendons breaking down and building up stronger. Give it a try. Not only do you learn a fun skill, but you build up your revolver shootin muscles too.

Interesting pistol, did you make it yourself? I owned a Yazel in .36 a couple
of years ago accurate pistol but it just did not feel right in my hand. I sold
it to another shooter that wanted to shoot blackpowder matches. I know
what you mean about holding pistols up. A Ruger Old Army with 7.5 barrel
is too much for me to hold up and squeeze the trigger like I can with a Gold
Cup. I just turned 62 and it isn't the golden years it is fools gold.

Thats right. As you get older and your eyes and whole body changes, you
have to adapt or quit. Me, I want to contine to shoot, so I adapt. There is
a reason, I shoot only 32's now. You sure can tell the new guys on the pistol
line. They all start with 45's. Now to the other question, these type of muzzleloading pistols have been shot at the National's in Friendship In. for
over 50 years. That's what we shoot. This one was built by Rob Lewis from
Ohio. I also have the matching Flintlock.I also have a 36 Yazel. It doesen't
fit me either. It is patterened after a S&W model 41. My hand is more a
Ruger Mark III .
 
I've been following your posts with interest here and on THR for a time now. May I be so rude as to inquire about a range of the sort of funds that are required to get into a gun of this sort?
 
Not rude at all. After all I am a nice guy. I bought this about 10 years ago
the price was 500.00 Today I think Rob gets 600 for the percussion and
about 700.00 for a Flintlock. Yazels go for 400-500. Lightning's around 700.
These are on par with the best 45's and S&W 41's and Ruger Mark III.
So I guess they are priced right. I think the triggers on these are better then
the modern stuff, they are just as accuract also. The sights on these are
Bomar's, now Champion.

It's very similar to NRA Bullseye pistol. Same ranges, 25 and 50 yards. Same rules, one handed hold, you can't lean on anything, wear ski boots, or anything that would provide artificial support. Same targets the NRA uses for rapid and timed fire.

One difference, the center of the bullet hole much touch the scoring ring in order to count as a hit on the higher scoring ring. In NRA Bullseye, if the bullet hole touches the scoring ring, it counts as a hit on the higher scoring ring.
Also, we have to use open sights, no holographic or optical sights.

In the Texas Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, an aggregate consists of six targets with a possible score of 600 points.
25 and 50 yard caplock pistol
25 and 50 yard flintlock pistol
25 and 50 yard revolver
We do not have a timed fire match for the revolver, but they do in the NMLRA matches in Friendship.
