Shooting 2060 Yards! 1.17 Miles 338 Lapua

Hey Guys! A couple days ago I went out and did some of my best shooting ever, at 2060 yards! I was shooting my savage 110 BA chambered in 338 Lapua with 300gr Berger OTM's at a steel torso target. Out of a total of 18 rounds fired I landed 4 solid hits. I probably would have done better but I had no idea I was hitting the target so a few times I dialed off after hitting. Time to get a better spotting scope now! Made a short video of the shoot, hope you enjoy!

Shooting 2060 Yards! 338 Lapua

I had the scope set to around 20X, the max is 22X on this Nightforce NXS. Also I had the scoped doped to 20.9 mils and .6 mils for wind/spindrift.

Nice shooting. Those are averages you can be proud of at that range in that target.

How many rounds did it take you to get initially on target? The wind was relatively consistent I'm assuming?

Most people don't realize how large of a difference in difficulty it is shooting a mile, 2000 and 2200 yards. Wind and other factors really start to play exponentially bigger roles.

Thanks timelinex, it took 4 shots until I first hit the target and then I hit it again on the 5th shot. The first shot was the only shot my spotter saw hit. The only sad part was not knowing I was hitting the target the other times, so many times I adjusted off target because I thought the bullets were just flying off into the trees. My spotting scope is an old 80's cheap scope. I bet the walmart 60x will at least let my spotter see if I'm hitting the target. Wind was low with only about 1-3mph drifts at times.

When I plug 90 gr H1000 300 gr Berger , 26" barrel into QL, I get 74 kpsi 2773 fps.
In QT I get 1173 fps at 2060 yards 80.55 moa correction, 1855" of drop, 230" of correction for 10 mph wind.

If I run 338 Win Mag at that 70 kpsi pressure and that bullet, 61.7 gr H4350, I get 2484 fps

The target velocities are the same, when 290 yards closer.

Does that mean I could hit that target with my 338WM at 1770 Yards?

No.
I would be lucky to hit that target at 600 yards.
There is too much wind where I shoot and I do not have that much skill either.

You have a setup like the one you got and you want cheap out on the spotting scope....

Nice shooting damn I thought I was doing good hitting 10" steel plates at 500yds with my 308.....:o

I know what you mean, the box is so old and cheap the label says made in japon! I'll be updating my gear hear shorty.

GRIZ... for someone with no formal training, you are exhibiting a rare skill set...

just watched a sniper show on history channel, this last weekend, & "2 of the best" were talking about how hard a 1000 yard shot is ( I know it's hard, well beyond what I have either skill or equipment for ) but as mentioned already, by the time the bullet has spent most of it's energy, those last couple 100 yards are definitely going to be the toughest... more than doubling a 1000 yards is pretty much crazy... awesome shooting
