Shooters World vs LOVEX Power Designation.

Shooters World data says that SW Blackout is the same as LOVEX DO63.

LOVEX says that SW Blackout is the same as DO63-02.

What is the significance of the “02” and does it matter?

I believe D063 is the basic powder type, and the -0# on their powders is a burn rate difference due to the deterrent concentration difference. On this side of the pond, an equivalent example is what Hodgdon sells as H335 and BL-C(2). These are the same base powder formulation (why the grains look the same), but H335 has a lower deterrent concentration, so it burns a bit faster. The bulk versions of these powders used by the Lake City plant are WC844 and WC846 out of the St. Marks, Florida plant.

I looked at that one yesterday wondering how it would work for 223/556 with a 55 grain bullet. On Sale at $280 for 8 pounds with no hazmat was too much to pass up. Especially when all the boutique Ar powders are bouncing off $60 a pound.

After checking out the load data on this powder I am confused and concerned.

The Data is all over the place and it is coming from the same source .

Examples, 7.62x39 123gr bullet.

SW Web site lists,
123gr Berry TMJ
19.0 - 22.8gr
43,862psi

Lovex Web site lists,

123gr SP and 123gr FMJ,
Both list,
23.1 - 25.5gr
51,100 psi

Now the kicker.

The 8 pound Jug of SW Blackout lists,
123gr JSP
28gr at 2545 fps , 42,050psi

Thoughts?

I did send an email to SW asking if the could clarify and they have not gotten back to me.

years ago i ran into an issue with 243win and 103gr pills with H-1000 powder. it seemed that when i approached max load, the additional powder was not burning while the bullet was still in the pipe. the max. 46.0grs hardly added any velocity or pressure to the load over what 45.0 was yielding. in fact i creeped all the way up to 48.0 grs with only a 20ft/s increase. but a lot of extra flash and bang.

my conclusion was that the powder was just too slow for the combination 22" tube and 103gr pill in the 243win.

i loved it with 105gr pills though.

anyway, i would be inclined to start at the lowest reccomended starting charge and keep creeping up until you find preasure signs. reguardless of where that is. or until you reach the highest listed max charge and just quit there even if it's not showing any signs.

small steps !
