Shooters' Party-- Elections

This isn't about your Rights but about mine ,what little are left:rolleyes: but the two are interlinked: we're all gun owners and those of us in Australia can only dream of the day when honest citizens can, once again, own the sorts of firearms that our brothers in the US are allowed to own.

On Saturday 24th March (tomorrow, for those of us who are in front of the rest of the world, in time at least):) . The elections will be held for both houses of our State Parliament in New South Wales.
Currently the Shooters' Party holds one seat in the Legislative Council, our upper house of review, tomorrow we fervently hope to make it at least two members.

If we don't get another member elected then it is possible that the Greens will be in a commanding position and we all know what various Green groups have done around the world. So wish us luck but whatever happens the fight will go on.

Good luck with your elections. I hope your party gets another seat.. or more, If thats possible.

When i was a child my father had me watch a documentary on gun ownership in Austraila...and told me we have to protect or rights here or that could be us. I certainly hope you guys down there can get your rights back.

First the good news.

The election is over and our local member, who is an Independent, was re-electedwith an increased majority. He won 74% of the vote which is quite an achievement in a democracy. He is a friend to gun owners and at most,if not all of the Polling Places around the electorate his workers and those for the Shooters' Party were one and the same and handed out 'How-to-Vote' for him and the party.

The results for the Legislative Council, which is our house of review, will not be final until about the 12th of April. The voting system is Preferential and is counted by hand, slow but sure. , butwith Scrutineers from all parties on hand to watch the count so that there is no 'funny business'.:)

So the 'bad news' is that we don't yet know if the Shooters have a second Member yet. The indications are that we will reach the target and get enough votes, at the latest count our man had 82,000+ primary votes and has to reach 96,000. On past election trends he should hit the target.

None of us need nail clippers at the moment though.:)

Eoin;

My Maternal family is from AU so I keep an eye on the politics. AU, CA, US, NZ, SA, UK and the list goes on. We all have problems with Government over regulation. I support you in spirit. Keep up the good fight.

I started my career in Vietnam in 1963, I retired in 1996. It sure made me feel good to have an ANZAC Soldier standing next to me.

Thanks for your help and good luck in the election.

Bill

I am uninformed on the subject so please don't flame me; but, why did people of Australia let the government pass the gun ban in the first place?

Tibu,
I never flame anyone, mate.
I take it as a legit question, and the answer is that the media went on the rampage against law-abiding shooters after the massacre in Pt Arthur, Tasmania. Nothing that we said made any difference, any appeal to reason was useless as the Prime Minister is vocally anti gun and he carried the day. All the main political parties jumped on the bandwagon.

To happier things, we got our man in.
Here's an e-mail I received this morning:
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The NSW Electoral Commission has today declared the polls from the recent State election and Roy Smith has won a second seat in the Upper House for the Shooters Party.

On a primary vote of 106,000, Roy was elected at number 20, ahead of the last coalition candidate.

The election of Roy has been the result of much hard work from all of you, and I pass on my sincere thanks for your efforts.

Now the hard work in the Council begins, and both Roy and I are looking forward to meeting the needs of our constituents.

Remember, we work for you and we would welcome invitations to attend clubs or events to discuss any relevant firearms or political issues with you and your colleagues.

Robert.

We are already working towards the next election, four years hence ! ! !

H Eoin, I'm glad you had some success.

What is the current situation with the Shooters Party in the federal parliament?

Currently we don't have any Federal Members but hope to do some good later this year when the Federal elections are due.

In the State of New South Wales we now have two members, there is not another state election for 4 years. Our 2 members are in the Legislative Council which is the house of review, the lower house, Representatives, does the hurly-burly of governing...it's known as the 'Bearpit'.

So nothing that could benefit Victoria currently?

Which major federal party is the most friendly to shooters this year? What's Labours position?

Thanks
