Shoot out between Sig P226 and CZ75BD 9mm

Anyone ever do a "shoot out"comparison between these two handguns? Next month a friend and I will have a good natured competition of this sort, but I was wondering what others have found here.

The CZ will have a trigger job and Tritium/FO sights. The Sig is stock, but of course comes with Tritium sights.

Nope. I would be curious as to how it comes out. I have both a West German P226 and a pre "B" CZ75. I like both of them, but I seem to shoot the Sig just a little better.

Both are very good hammer fired DA/SA decocker guns.

Personally, I've only shot a CZ 75 back to back with a 226 a few times. Not really a "Shoot out". I'll take the 226 anytime over the 75. I've never found the ergo's of the CZ's to be any better than average. Not bad but, not great. the factory on the Sig is better in pretty much every way. There are some special factory CZ's with very nice triggers though. Accuracy again is for the Sig with the CZ being very accurate as well.

My fathers PD did some testing on several guns when looking for a 9mm semi auto many moons ago. The CZ75 and 226 were two of the final four. The did extensive testing and ended up with 226's.

Too bad you guys were not doing a shoot out with two factory spec guns. Should be a good match. Let us know how you guys make out.

I've always enjoyed reading about comparisons between similar guns from different manufacturers, including, of course, how they shoot. I'm not sure they really resolve the question of which one is "best" but they're fun to read about (or view on YouTube).

I have a couple P226s and a CZ 75 SP01 Shadow. I really like both but overall like my P226s better and shoot them about the same though the SP01 has a bit nicer recoil impulse due to the extra weight of the steel frame. I agree with Worc in that my P226 fits my hand better than the CZ. I am glad I own both though.

Shooting comparisons often have more to do with what works best for a particular person than a comparison of mechanical accuracy of a particular pistol and ammo combination.

A couple pictures of mine but at 7 yards not to be taken as a comparison as these were not during the same range session.

That's interesting. I've never heard of any American law enforcement agency (at least any one larger than the Mayberry PD) that ever considered the adoption of a CZ pistol for service, let alone issuing one.

"...PD that ever considered the adoption of a CZ..." Too big for small hands. And in those days, nobody, Stateside, would/could buy a Warsaw Pact country's kit.
Would have bought one in a second when they first came to Canada, in the early 80's(several years before they got Stateside.), except my wide short hands are too short. Couldn't reach the trigger.
Factory targets that came with every one of 'em looked a lot like Sigarms228's.
Only way you can have an unbiased 'shoot out' comparison is if you can put 'em both in a Ransom style rest and remove the shooter from the equation. That and if you use the same ammo, one pistol may just like that ammo more.

I have tiny hands and the reason I bought my first CZ is because it fits my hand better than any others, including the Sigs. I still haven't found a gun that fits my hand like the CZ, and every CZ 75 model or clone I've tried has been the same way. Just my experiences.

I've found the CZ75 to be one of, if not the most accurate guns in my hands. My CZ75B SA is absolutely extraordinary. Especially with the Hogue finger groove grips, it feels like it just melts into my hands.

I shoot the Sig fairly well, but the ergos just don't do it for me. I'm not a fan of the high bore axis, and I ride that slide release every time.

It was brought in by one of the of the guys on the department. Others brought in a BHP and some various S&W's of the time. There were four different factory reps that brought in their offerings. The 75 got cut in the second round and I don't know how serious it was taken as a choice. May have been used more to see how the other top choices compared to a similar firing system.

As I understand it, the CZ 75 is standard issue for more than a few European le/military agencies and I've never understood why Americans seem to be so adverse to adopting this pistol or at least giving it a fair shake in performance tests. After all, the wall has been down for decades and the Czech Republic is hardly a member of the defunct "Warsaw Pact".

If I had to guess, I would go with production capacity and supply. Ever notice how a certain model will be plentiful for awhile and then you won't see it for months? When I started looking at CZs I kinda wanted a P-01 and an SP-01. Neither were found at a reasonable price when I bought and I'm impatient , so I ended up with a P-07 and a 75B. I'm happy with them, don't get me wrong, just not what I originally intended to get.

Not surprising with most everyone going to striker fired these days. CZ also does not have the support network here in place like Glock, Smith and Wesson, and SIG do for agencies. One big negative is if an agency wanted a pistol with a safety I really doubt they would want one that has no decoker. Beretta, FN, and HK all have decockers on their pistols that have external safety.

The CZ75BD has a decocker. I pick mine up tomorrow after the Democrat-required 10 day waiting period. Gonna have a trigger job done and FO/Tritium sights put on (before the "shoot out").
